i just recently purchase the Sony DRU 800a. The problem is that it does not read well. It would show the cd i put in there but i would not be able to run it. ex: Icoudnt install the included software because it said it was not a win32 application. Everytime i put in a cd i could see the tracks but it woudnt be able to play it.
I am able to burn dvd ok but it is the reading that is messed up. Can anyone help me? thanks.

Personally I would trade the Sony in for a Lite-On...I've run into some interesting problems with those Sony drives for some reason. It could be a problem with your cable or incorrect jumper settings though..so check that first.

im pretty sure its not codec or a bad cd becasue they work on my second drive. It is this first drive that does not seem to be reading. jumper is set on cs and the cables are correctly pluged in. DMA is on. I dont know about drives but i cant seem to update the firmware. i try but it keeps telling me to contact the vendor and it does not work. thanks for the responses
