Reading on-die temp

Hey guys,
I've just got myself a AMD Barton 2500+ and a Abit NF7-S. I belive that the abit board generally reports the "CPU" temp by reading the temp diode underneath the chip (the same way AMD board shave been doing for a while). I've heard that people have been able to still read the on die temperatures. My question is how?

as far as i know.. i haven't heard of anything that'l allow you to read directly off the die...

Look at the motherboard monitor site and follow the directions for installing it with your motherboard.

If you're lazy, then here is the link...just look for NF7-S and follow directions...

is that the diode in the socket or the on die temp? I always thought that its reading from the diode underneath the cpu.

the nf7-s reads the socket-thermsitor, only... MBM is not capable of picking up the diode temp.

most AMD motherbaords do indeed read the diode temp, so that the temperature shutdown works properly.. those temps are done off the itnernal diode temps.

Buuuuuuut... this system is often isolated from the IC's that mbm reads temps from.

So there isn't any third party software which can read off the diode? :/

i'm not saying its impossible, but the way that the diode shutdown protocols seem isolated, its probably unlikely that any third party software can read it, or be configured to read it.

But maybe it can be done. It would be nice if it could be done. The asus boards still do diode, but they have had that ability with MBM since hte a7V8x, i think.

I have a 2400+ on a asus a7n8x-dlx and use 'Speedfan' to get the on-chip diode temp.

Brace yourself...these real chip temps are frightning.
Where the mb diode would read 32 deg C, the on-chip diode temp can easily be 58C.
