reading a laptop harddrive on a desktop?

Just a warning. Using those adaptors may be a bit dangerous. If you don't plug it in the right way (notice that there is no sign saying which side is which) you could burn out your drive. What i recommend is for you to find USB 2.0 2.5" Enclosures. They run for about $12 - $15 shipped and it is way safer.
