In a critical examination of Philip Larkin's work and style, I came across this little gem:

This Be The Verse

They fvuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fvucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

In reading the thoughts of many young males here who tell of their escapades, of their problems, and of their views, I realized that a great many do not want to have children, for whatever reasons. You must share the views of Mr. Larkin in his state of thinking that hope is dead and that all actions are futile to the extent that offspring are undesirable.

If that is so, then why exactly do you hold this view or how did you come to have it?

A question I've thought about for some time, but would like more discussion on why young people are averse to kids.

Cheers ! :)

Once you get past those angry teen age years, you realize your parents didn't "fvuck" you up as bad as you previously thought.

hmm

then what causes this conception originally? General teen uncertainty? When and how does the realization of the merits of progeny take place?

Cheers ! :)

Woah.....
That's exactly how I feel. Mainly I feel that way because of seeing and knowing ppl that fvcked up their kids or were fvcked up by their parents. I don't think my parents fcked me up too bad, but I still don't wanna have kids.

I look forward to fvcking up my own kids. Maybe I'll become a teacher, and I can fvck yours up, too

No way, they're being homeschooled. Screwing up my own children and making them proud freaks is a full-time job and far too delicate to be left to professionals with credentials.

How do you differ from someone who doesn't think that?

Cheers ! :)
