When I searched I found this nowhere on the web. If you already knew, no harm no foul.
I tried to slave a 2.5" sata in my desktop to recover data. I got bizarre symptoms (YMMV) using a "molex to sata" power adapter on the 2.5" drive....no boot and color changed in bios background with power to the 2.5" drive. I tried many suggestions from the web that did not help.
The eventual solution was to use an actual (with orange 3.3V wire) sata connector from the power supply for the 2.5" drive and use the adapter on my normal drive. I had no idea the 2.5" drives required 3.3V and the opposite was stated repeatedly on many web sites. Now to find out how to take ownership for file backup.
