reactions to new machine

I am having two new machines built to replace my xp 3000+ systems.

I don't play games (or overclock) but do extensive database sorts, excel, photoshop, word processing, extensive scanning of documents, and x1 searches.

I know that sli etc. is for gamers but I think what I've put together below will allow me to grow in the future, etc (and not unimportantly allow me the most flexibility for adding monitors via a second card in the future).

My biggest concern is stability. And that the machine be cool.

Biggest -- and hardest choice -- is the CPU.

a) athlon 64 4000+ or

b) athlon 64 x2 3800 Any thoughts here?

I am very likely to go with the x2 3800 because I am always have lots of applications open at the same time.

Motherboard. I like Asus, so I am going to us an a8n-sli premium.

Video:

GIGABYTE GV-NX68T256DH Geforce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express.

Two dvi connectors (running two Samsung 920t -- excelent monitor)

And I like the Gigabyte chip cooler.

Memory: Corsair TWINX1024-3200XLPT Any thoughts here?

Power Supply: i have been using PC Power and Cooling for 20 years without a hitch and will stick with them: 510 sli.

Drives: I have been a scsi user but I think the time has come to give it up. So I will be using two Maxtor MaXLine III 7L250S0 250GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150
Again, any thoughts.
ally,

Cooler Master Stacker (black).

and, finally, a Plextor 716sa.

I would appreciate any reactions and comments.

Thank you.

X2 for sure.

Is there a reason for the 6800GT since you dont play games?

there is no reason for the 6800GT, there are many cards that are much cheaper that have two dvi. Also, X2 for sure.

Um... buy an "off brand" one? Usually there's little to no difference in the actual cards (unless it's a model that's factory overclocked or has better cooling), just in the software bundle/warranty.

This card should be fine.

Here's an ASUS X800 if you insist on a "brand name" card.

If you just want multiple monitors, there's no need to get an "SLI-capable" video card. You can run any two PCIe video cards in a board with two PCIex16 slots. They just won't run in SLI mode.

Other than that:

The 3800 X2 CPU would be a good choice if you multitask heavily.

As noted, that memory is very expensive. 2GB is probably not a bad idea, but you don't need stuff that runs at super-tight timings (see lengthy stickied post in CPUs/Overclocking).

PCP&C makes nice power supplies, but a) they're very overpriced, and b) you will not be using anywhere NEAR 510W. Probably not even 300W. I'm also not sure how efficient or quiet that one is. I'd personally recommend something like one of the lower-end Seasonic S12 models, which are extremely quiet and efficient.

Have you given a thought on ULi1695 TGI ?
For what I hear it is the chipset of the future mobo's and making Nvidia NF4 go home crying. Have you seen anywhere 400 mhz fsb OCing w/ nf4?..NOT

I know that XP Vista is coming. And with all its fancy visual footwork, I thought a fairly sophisticated graphics board would handle the new stuff best. Therefore the geforce 6800.

thanks for all your replies.
