This is related to a thread I was reading yesterday. Some guy had a dilemma needing USB support in NT. From what I gathered from the thread, NT doesn't support USB. Now, I'm kinda shooting from the hip here, so bear with me. Unfortunately I've not had the pleasure of experimenting with every Windows OS ever released. But, here is what I'm thinking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would feel confident in assuming that Windows 2000 supports USB. Now if my understanding of the OS is correct, it's more or less a combination of NT and 98..YES or NO?? Now, here is my idea, granteed I may be way out in left field on this one, it wouldn't be the first time. But let's say, just for the sake of argument, provided one was able to "acquire" a copy of Win2K, would it be possible to install the USB drivers from Win2K onto an NT machine and fix the problem. Thus giving the NT macine USB capability. Granted this is just a theory, and more than likely the Win2K drivers wouldn't be backwards compatible with NT anyway. IMHO.

Thx in advance for the information.

JR.

windows 2000 supports plug n play, windows NT 4.0 does not. I've never been able to get USB working in NT4, but it's fine in Win2k. I think if it was that easy to get it to work more people would have USB running in NT4. Really there is no reason for a home user to be running NT4, windows 2000 does everything and more, and is more user friendly. Nt4 can be a big jackass, in my opinion.

There is a reason why I run NT4, not 2k, and its simple, because I don't have it, nor the money to buy it.

It is impossible to have USB working on NT4. It does not support it nor will it ever be supported on NT4.

The upgrade for win2k is not to expensive.

doesnt sound impossible
but i didnt check it out, i just know its a pain to mess with, and that windows 2000 files would most likely not work. But.... I havent tried anything 3rd party like that, nor have i messed with any service packs since 5.
