Well, I signed up for Gamefly again late last night since Blockbuster is no longer offering rent 1 get 1 free coupons via mycokerewards.com any more. Really disappointed about that.

Anyways, added Mass Effect 2 and No More Heroes 2 as my first two games and they're already showing as shipped. Now to see how long it takes to get here and how fast the turn around will be when I ship them back.

Last time I had them, the turn around from mailing a game to them and then getting it back was horrendous. Hopefully, they've improved over the last year+ since I last was signed up with them.

Yeah, I know I should have bought Mass Effect 2 but I've got to buy my son a new pair of cleats and a baseball bat this week along with some new PC parts for my dying PC so that's the best I can do for now. :p

I'm thinking I'm going to stop buying console games all together and go gamefly. Buying is just a waste anymore.

Turnaround time doesn't bother since I don't play console games that much. Really the only ones I'm anxious to play are Uncharted and Uncharted 2, and I'm assuming there's no replay value there anyway.

My justification for using Gamefly (even if the turnaround for a disc is anywhere from one week to 1.5 months and I usually get the fifth game down my list instead of the first every time) is that paying $70 for modern games is ridiculous when 90% of the production is purely for a short term graphical experience.

Since getting a PS3 I was thinking of checking them out but 1.5 month turnaround is unacceptably slow. Is that just for new games?

Turn around still isn't great. It usually takes about 1.5-2 weeks to get another game in after I send the previous one out. Not horrible, but a lot slower than Netflix. I think think it's worth it though. One game I don't buy as a result of renting via Gamefly pays for roughly 3 months of the service. So it saves me plenty of money even with the slow turn around. Plus I can take more risks on games I'm unsure about. If I end up not liking them I can just send them right back.

I never experienced a 1.5 month turnaround previously but it would take a week to two weeks.

Compare that to Netflix where if I send a movie back on Monday I get another one on Wednesday unless everything in my queue is already out.

My only suggestion would be to not load up your queue. Only put the number of games in there that you can have checked out to increase the likelihood of you getting what you want faster.

Gamefly sent out my copy of Mass Effect 2 today. I have the permanent 10% + $5 game dollars so I can pick it up for $42.

I hated Gamefly. After I got my first game and sent it back, it took them 2 weeks to send me my next one. That's unacceptable to me.

You all must live out in the boonies. Here in SoCal I get most of my games within 3 days...sometimes even less.

I'm in central PA, so most of my games are mailed from Pittsburgh. It normally only takes a 2-3 days. That said I have so many games that I've missed, it doesn't bother me if I don't get the week 1 games.

The trick is to only put 1 game on your queue. You might add 1-5 days onto the turnaround but you get exactly what you want. Works like a charm.

It's unfortunate that you have to do this, but it's very true. I routinely got game number 3, 4, or sometimes even 5 on my queue instead of the first two, so I simply took them all off and add one game at a time to ensure I get what I want everytime. I consider it completely unacceptable to send me games out of order as this defeats the entire purpose of using the queue in the first place.

I understand Gamefly cannot be as big and popular as Netflix and thus has distribution centers further away from me, but 2-3 weeks for a new disc is ridiculous at times.

That being said, it sure beats wasting $70 on a game I play for a few days and never touch again.

This is exactly why I canceled my account. I never got a game that I liked and shipping took to long to the point where I lost interest in the games that were out.

I live in metro Atlanta. Closest distribution center to me is in Tampa. When I was signed up before, it would take only two or three days for a game to get down to them but it could take another week or more for a game in my queue that was in 'available' status to get shipped to me.

I live just a few miles from a Netflix distribution center so I'm admittedly probably spoiled by the turnaround from them. But there's no reason for a game that was sitting in 'available' status when my previous game arrived at GF to take a week to arrive to me.

That's why I'm interested to see if they've improved in the last year+ since I was last signed up.

Well, that's weird. Gamefly told me that both Mass Effect 2 and No More Heroes 2 were shipped on Monday. I only received Mass Effect 2 in the mail today.

Must be coming from different distribution centers.

Gamefly told me they shipped Mass Effect 2 and No More Heroes 2 on Monday. I got ME2 on Wednesday and NMH2 on Saturday. NMH2 must have been coming from California or something.

I'm glad I live near a gamefly distribution center. There's one in Austin, Tx; it's only 1 hour away or so. So my turnaround times are fast. I'll mail in a game wednesday or thursday, and I'll have one in my mailbox on Tuesday.

A lot of people also really don't understand how Gamefly works. Gamefly can't carry the same amount of numbers of games as netflix does movies. Popular games will always have limited availability for the first few months before they'll be shipped out without a problem. So if you have a bunch of games listed as limited availability on your Queue, then you're probably not going to get those, unless Gamefly refreshes their stock.

Gamefly has always been a fantastic service whenever I have my subscription active. I've pretty much got it down to a science when to mail back a game so I can get a new release.

I've had gamefly for about a month now, and I've definately been getting my money's worth. Sure they dont always ship the top of my list, but I can live with that since I'm not dropping $60 a pop on games that i play for a few weeks and then put down.

I've learned recently to ONLY put the top 2-3 games I want in my queue... sure it's more queue juggling but I definitely get what what I want

Think I may reactivate my account as well. There's a lot of games I'd like to play and while I normally wait until they are cheap before I buy them, I might save some money this way. Possibly.. maybe?

When I first saw the ads years ago for Gamefly, I assumed they were a subsidiary of Netflix. It's damn Netflix for games. Why haven't they bought Gamefly yet? They have the damn infrastructure to make it super fast and the efficiencies to save money.

Maybe they feel it's not worth it. Even at bulk rates, new games will still cost a shit load more than movies and most really only hold their value for a year or so. Then people will be renting the new stuff and the old stuff that cost them ~$60 last year is gathering dust on the shelf.
