According to the Speed page on www.teamanandtech.com, a Dual P2-400 would do about 2.2 Mkeys, while a single 800 MHz Athlon/Duron would do 2.7 Mkeys.

Is it that simple? Or is there any degradation to the client running on a dual system, as compared to a single cpu such as an Athlon/Duron, or even a regular P3-800??

A dualie acts just like a single CPU totalling the same speed. At least in Linux.

Likewise under Windows. Unlike the SETI client, the Dnet client runs two crunchers with double the output, or even more (since the OS is not running overhead on both CPUs, or that's my understanding anyway).

Dual P2 400 is like a Single P2 running at 800Mhz if you talk about RC5 speed, as it scales perfectly with the number of processors.

Athlons crack RC-5 faster. An Athlon RC-5 rate mulitplyer is 3.4..

Athlon = 3.4 | 3.4 x Mhz = rate.. or in the case of 800Mhz, 3.4 x 800 = 2.7M/keys

Celeron/PII/PIII = 2.8 | 2.8 x Mhz = rate... or in the case of 800Mhz, 2.8 x 800 = 2.2M/keys

G4 = 8.7! (very fast) | 8.7 x Mhz = rate... or in the case of 800, 8.7 x 800 = 6.9M/keys and 2240 wu/day !!!
(Even though there arent any G4's @ 800.. A Dualie 400 I guess.. but thats $$$)

You can check http://www.teamanandtech.com/speed.asp for those numbers.. They may be a little off with newer clients.

The client is small enough to fit in the processor caches, elimination the memory penalties caused by two processors looking to the slower RAM for instructions.
