Re: Prostitution

My thoughts can be summed up in one George Carlin quote:
"Selling is legal. Fscking is legal. Why isn't selling fscking legal?"

Really, I don't get why prostition is still illegal (in the U.S.). I can understand maybe 150 years ago when we were still a mostly religious society, but why haven't they legalized it? I think it's about time...

Ok...since you brought it up.

Aren't "porn stars" really just prostitutes that are on film?

They have sex for money. Period. They just happened to be filmed while doing it.

I totally agree with you, although I don't think I'll ever need their "services" There is no reason it is still illegal, but then, there is no reason drugs are still illegal either. They are both "victimless" crimes and should be legalized.

I think the difference is that porn stars need to take blood tests to prove they don't have any diseases. Also, is prostitution legal in Nevada? I didn't think it was anywhere in the US, but in my sociology class today there was a presentation and in one part they said its legal in Nevada

edit: Oh RagingBitch answered my question. Haha wonder how truthful they are when reporting their earnings to the IRS

The seperation of Church and State doesn't really happen in the USA. Unfortunately, we are still controlled by a huge amount of Bible worshipping zealots that believe sex is really a sin, unless you are married and are trying to have kids.

FOOLS!

Most of the rest of the civilized world understands that selling sex is nothing bad. In many countries its regulated (like Germany). When its regulated, its taxed, it provides a safe place for prostitutes and you will see much less crime when it comes to prostitution (drugs, pimps, violence, etc). USA should wake up and learn that the seperation of Church and State should *really* exist.

Heh, ever been to Vegas? There are pron magazines all over the place, pictures, posters, EVERYTHING just out in the open...

At least it was like that when I was there abround 5 years ago...

Full of gutteral FILTH! Just FILTH!

....I've got to go back....

Er...😱

hehe, vegas was fun 🙂 i dont get why this stuff is illegal in so many states. no one is getting hurt by it.. 🙂

Just to clarify, no I'm not trying to obtain the services of a prostitute, and probably never will. This is just one of those issues that bug me.

Diseases, yes, that is a valid cause for concern, but just like every other industry where a product is bought, it can be regulated. Maybe set up a government regulation program where they're tested for STDs once every few months in order to keep their license.

As for porn stars, that's a good point, but it would be hard to prove that the tape was filmed on US soil, or that it was filmed in a state where prostitution is illegal.

depends if you think this nation is mature enough to handle legalization on a
national level ?

from a practical public health standpoint, you could see an incredible increase
in stds and all the attendant problems that crisis would create. this nation has
nearly 300 million people.

prostitution is also percieved as a haven by lost youth who crave love, a quick
buck, hope. legalizing this would make enforcement of child sex laws more difficult
because the numbers in the clandestine trade of underage prostitutes would increase.
market forces will continue to prevail, and if there is strong demand now for under
18-types, imagine the growth once you confer not legalization but legitimacy.

It is legal in most of nevada... I Have never visited a whore house, but from what I heard they are very clean & Get checked out for std's weeekly if not daily, & Most requre a condom to be worn...

I agree with you about prostitution, but you are way off base on the drug issue.

1) It is legal in one county of Nevada, the only one that meets the population requirements.
2) They all require condoms.

Prostitution is legal in Nevada in certain circumstances - the girls are licensed, medically checked weekly, required to be 'safe' and work from licensed brothels. Street-walking prostitution is still illegal.

I think that's correct. It was funny walking down the strip, there are people who just stand on the sidewalks passing out ads for "Private entertainment" with pictures of porn stars. What a gig, huh? I almost asked them how much they get paid for passing out those things.

Ah, the World's Oldest Profession! It should be legalized...so I could become a Gigolo. Oh hell yeah, I would! I'm a decent looking guy, have never had a problem meeting women nor keeping girlfriends. I'd LOVE to get paid for getting off. That would be awesome. As long as you "freelance" you can pick and choose who you boink. No fat, ugly or old and hairy women. I'm not particularly picky as it is: I love women, period. As long as they are clean, have personality and float my boat, it's on, baby!

Ah, to get paid $200 or more for every sexual encounter...what a dream.

The Dutch and the Aussies seem to have things well under control. Of course this country is full of people of "high moral" standing who will preach all day about the "evils" of sin. Then turn around and visit a "massage parlor" or molest a few alterboys.

vash, that isn't seperation of church and state, that's democracy. A large group of people want laws written according to their views. Just because their views are based upon a religious conviction instead of another doesn't make it any less valid. The gun lobby, the farmers lobby, the green lobby, the union lobby, the religious lobby, religion isn't the odd man out, their all the same.

Do I want it legalized in my state? No. I don't live in nevada, they can do whatever they want.

I wouldn't want my mom to get a job as a whore, or see my sister grow up to be a whore. Whatever faith you hold a whore is still a whore.
