Re-ordering checks?

I'm on my last set of the originals that they gave me when I first signed up for my checking account.

Where should I order from? How much do they typically cost?

We just order ours from our bank. You can usually do this online on the bank website. I think it was $20.

I've ordered from checksinthemail.com. A lot cheaper than getting them from my bank.

why the hell do you use checks? I haven't used checks since high school.

I don' use many but had to use them for:

Paying taxes
Deposit on house
Paying HVAC guy and electrician
Auto mechanic - saves him money instead of paying him by cc
Starting-up direct deposit at new job - they request a voided check

Its probably cheaper to do it through a place like Checks Unlimited. I got something like 4 boxes of checks (with the carbon copy sheet too) for $10 shipped

I ordered my last box from Costco (online), and it was much less expensive than my bank for checks with that duplicating page.

There's been a check deal on Fatwallet for over a year, and it still works (someone posted htat it worked on 1/25/2011):

"Get two boxes of checks from 4checks.com for $4.05 after offer code DE0378 when ordering online or by calling 1-866-923-0451.

Free shipping.

No processing fees.

Offer ends 12/31/10.

800 designs.

First time customers only.

Each box has four books.

Each book has 25 checks.

Be careful when ordering as they will sneak in the EZShield fraud protection. Need to select No twice.

Checks via your bank will cost from $15-$25 depending on style, etc

Online will be about $5-$10

A carbon copy would not be proof of payment. I personally don't like the carbon copy style checks but it does guarantee you won't forget to record a check you wrote.

Some places (like my university) charge you a sizable fee for using a debit / credit card over a check.

I really hate getting charged a fee to pay a fee...

yes really. never done this before.
i could've been ignorant and re-ordered from the box for $19.99 each box, or shopped online for ~$7/box.

but by posting this, i got 2 boxes for $4 shipped thanks to rumpltzer.

Yes but with some (most?) checking accounts you can go on the banks website and fill out who to pay and how much to pay them, and the bank will mail them a check at no cost.

I can write free checks using citibanks website. If they can't send it electronically, they will print the check, stick it in an envelope, and mail to the person, all at no cost to me.

Unless you like holding up lines at the supermarket, why would anyone want to write out a check?
