What facts would justify putting people down. Any such facts would have to be accompanied with the unconscious assumption that a put down for those reasons is warranted, would it not? People who humiliate others do so out of self hate, in my opinion. I reflect that self hate back at them and smile when they go crazy. Humiliating others should have a price, if it is going to be tolerated. I don't want that job but I see no moral alternative to attempting not to allowing bullies to proliferate. I find the degradation of others disgusting. There is so much pain in the world. Why allow the hard core mentally ill to pull down kinder softer people. I would like a forum where the haters aren't so welcome. All the lunatic expression of asinine opinion we see in these threads are put there to hurt other people. It's all put down at its core. But I think a lot of people know they would be lost without it and don't want to let go of the vine.

Yes but what you want doesn't exist. I get what you are trying to do, I like it and I wish that that's the way thing could be but it's not and nothing you do will change that (I'm sure knowing that you are trying to change that makes you feel good though).

You are trying to change human behavior whereas I'm simply trying to work with it.

One is tiny. The other is smaller than P&N but not much smaller. But it's a private forum, and thus tends to self-select towards more reasonable people.

That said, in the past I've been in other groups of significant size where things were a lot cleaner than they are here.

Every single day, we see more examples of why drastic change is needed. I mean, it's hard to see how we could do much worse than this. Or this.

Give the sane people a refuge. Please.

Since one person's fish might be an other's foul it becomes informative to know what the purpose of any forum is. Obviously folks have objectives to pursue as they labor to create threads consistent with that objective. It seems just as valid to create a thread on a 9/11 conspiracy as Global Warming news to Nukes in Iran...
It seems your view of 'insanity' might be consistent with more folks than my view but the question is or should be the parameters of the forum. Folks feel comfortable proclaiming one poster an idiot because he is an anarchist apparently. The flames engulf his threads because some folks find that poster's topic to be beyond the beyonds but yet it is his belief articulated. He may consider some poster's position on abortion to be insane but he may not venture to that thread why do others venture to his? I suggest it is to be obnoxious toward another person in a forum where his threads are seemingly ok...

Two forum is ok but they need to have some parameter as to subject matter as well as debate protocol... I think!

Yet another thread where trolling is allowed to go rampant. Either Incorruptible's thread needed to be locked for trolling or those who were trolling in the thread need warnings/infractions. There is no sense in that crap and when moderators do nothing all it does is encourage others to behave in the same manner. Most of that stuff is secondary and tertiary effects resulting from frustration as a result of P&N not having been moderated for months. If and when things are changed, that will mostly go away on its own.

100% this. I don't considering poking a stick at an obvious troll to be the problem with the boards. The problem lies in the frustration most of us feel after having to wade through page after page of disingenuous troll hit pieces for month after month. When people continue to make OP's whose titles/original comments are not supported by their linked videos and/or articles under the guise of trying to have an actual discussion about the topic it becomes real old. Real fast. Trolling begets trolling where everyone loses.

The way to avoid seeing threads by people you don't like, is do not enter them. Do not post in them. Do not send the thread back to the top of the forum.

I mean, it's very clear there is a large segment of this forum that enter certain threads for no other purpose but to scream troll.

Start your own commentary in the created thread and everyone who wants to ignore a certain person, ignore him.

There are several people who often write for the sake of pissing other people off, continuing to purposefully not make sense to get a laugh out of the responses. Unlike how this thread is trying to move towards, laying the blame primarily on one user is not the correct thing to do.

People who troll forums do so for attention. As long as attention is received, he will stay around. Ignore someone's bad comments and he goes away. But those who go into thread after thread only to write "go away troll" are no more deserving of being on a forum than someone else.

Technically I don't think P&N existed as a separate forum 10 years ago - I think it was started in about 2003 (though it's possible my memory is failing me). You're certainly right that there have always been a lot of insults and bad discussion in P&N, but I don't recall this kind of openly racist content being permitted. I have been an active member of P&N since its inception (with the exception of some long breaks), and it's worse now than it's ever been.

Anyone watch the movie "The Ten Commandments"? The Hebrews are docile and decent when Moses goes up the mountain, and when he comes back down, it's utter chaos.

Once everyone gets used to the free-for-all, you can't fix it by cherry-picking this bad post or that bad poster. We need the admins to proverbially toss down the tablets and crack open the ground a bit to swallow some of the most heinous nonsense, and everything else will be returned to order pretty quickly.

He has been towing the line for some time now. Again, these types of posts used to be dealt with quickly, now nothing. P&N has turned into a racists playground, but of course pointing out the racism makes me a racist, too. Guilty... It's clear that minorities in P&N better have some pretty thick skin because it's now the status quo...
