Re installing MS xp

I want to do a fresh install of MS xp. The problem is I have a newer version of xp installed right now and the xp cd i have is a older version. Because of that it won't let me re-install xp using the older cd. I do have sp2 just on a different cd. So how can I go about doing a fresh install? The reason i'm doing this is because my computer is running sluggish and I want to star over sort of speak. Any ideas what I need to do?

Well, you will want to back up your data.

Then, drop the CD in the drive, restart the machine (make sure you set the BIOS to boot from CD) and then go through the windows installation

I already set it to boot from cd. But I get a error message that the NTLDER is missing. I do have a original copy of xp cd but its old. I'm at a lost right now.

Why don't you make a SlipStreamed XP SP2 disk? If you search for WindowsXP SP 2 Bootable in google you should get some handy, easy to use guides to perform this function. It's pretty simple if you can follow directions well. ;-) Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I tried to follow the direction to slipstream it but I failed. I'm just going to take my shot gun and shot my stupid comp. Thats not the only problem i have with this comp. My stupid stand alone mic and headset mic doesn't work. My stand alone mic did work and all of sudden it's stopped working. I tried about everything, made sure nothing was on mute. I don't know why this is happening. I have a xfi sound card.

DBAN is a popular program used to completely wipe your hard drive. You're supposed to burn it to a CD and boot from that CD to use it.

I did burn it onto a cd. but it didn't work for me. Maybe I done something wrong. I'm going to try it again. So, it seems i burned the image right. But when I get to the screen where it tells me to push f2 for more info or type "autonuk" to start dban. I get that far, but the problem is, it freezes to that screen. I can't type anything. Could i've burn the image wrong? Any ideas.

dont reinstall, just wipe everything. Delete the partitions first, then format, then install like it was new.

Is there a way to wipe everything other than using dban? I tried using dban but I guess i didn't burn the image right or something.
