I checked in the add/remove programs like the "help" sugguests, but there nothing to click on to uninstall IE. The IE i have now is corrupt and wont work properly. When I click d/l IE 6.0 on microsofts site it tells me "sorry cannot continue, newer version detected" so i have no idea what to do. Can anyone help me out please???

try restoring the system if you have that option enabled it fixed mine after ie6 crashed repeatedly when i first got it

hope this helps

I had almost exactly the same problem - and with media player too.

The way I ended up fixing it was quite simple...

Delete %systemroot%\program files\Internet Explorer\*.*
Or iexplore.exe at the bare minimum.

(I was actually MISSING iexplore.exe - I copied it off a 2k machine and then deleted it, and it still worked 😉

WinXP will go hang on - critical system files deleted - please insert winXP cdrom.

Stick the CD in, it copies IE again - problem solved.

I dont know if this will work 100% for you, but it did for me.
