i need to wipe my HD and do a complete re-install. located and backed up the .pst files. what now?

do i re-install windows and somehow access my backed up .pst's? any special way to retrieve them?

or do i need to do the export/import thing like i used to do w/ OE?

if u have ur data backed up into pst files, after u reinstall windows and office (which outlook is a part of) u can just import the pst files again.

do the pst files contain everything i need? what i mean is, i didn't export or anything before locating those files. are they automatically updated and include every email, even if auto archive hasn't run recently?

i just want to make sure those files include everything i need and will be easily imported. Like it won't matter that they are in a folder i created on my external drive right?

i just remember all the headaches i had with OE until i got it figured out

thank you!

ok this is what i remember about outlook (2000 and prior)...

you can look for it's data files manually and back those files up and restore them to the same path, or....
open outlook and export. during the export process, u will have the option to select what u want to keep (ie - calendar, emails, addressbook, etc).

i don't work with outlook a lot, but i know i have done so in the past. i dont know how accurate my recollections are, so u might want to wait for someone else to confirm or dismiss my info.

much appreciated. i'm using the newest version, but will check that out

anybody else have any more info please post

Also curious about this process. need to recover everything from an outlook program that crashed. the hard drive's gone bad, so I can't use the export wizard
