I have a very large mpeg2 video capture which I would like to re-encode at a lower bitrate for the purposes of authoring it on a single 4.7gb DVD. Any suggestions?
Are you wanting to play this on a stand alone player? The program your using to author the DVD should be doing the encoding for you when you create the .vob files. Or are you just wanting to create a data CD to backup the file to?
It's for authoring to DVD. The mpeg2 file is too large, so I need to re-encode it at a lower bitrate. The program I am using to do the authoring is Ulead's DVD Moviefactory 4.0.
Like I said, Ulead's DVD Moviefactory 4.0 should be doing that for you. You shouldnt have to manually re-encode the file prior to using the authoring program.
2 suggestions, both freeware:
1) go ahead and author your dvd with the oversized mpg, and afterwards compress with "dvd shrink"
2) use a program called "rejig" to compress mpg, then author dvd
