Distributed Hardware Evolution Project

An interesting, dual purpose project, but before you start:
  • 2-3 WEEKS per task.
  • Each task opens a java window that must be left open (a miniature VM?)
  • 32 minimized windows in the task bar is almost enough to make me re-enable the option to collapse similar windows into one tab

Also, I am working with Michael with an issue with lag within Windows. So far I have noticed if you Suspend BOINC, it will bring the system to a crawl until restart. I am doing more testing late tonight per his instruction to see if it can be replicated outside of BOINC. It does not appear to be a RAM issue nor an issue with running too many work units per se. But just a caution for those that may attempt running this project.

I'm running 40 threads on my 2 x E5-2690 v2. Credits are awarded each hour even though the tasks are estimated to finish in 16 days. Apparently this is expected behavior. I haven't seen any popups yet after 6 hours. Every hour the boinc client sends a "trickle up " message to the server and then credits are awarded. I've seen following the credits awarded each hour:

Yes, I'm running linux so that explains it. Thanks!
This is the line I see in the boinc event log every hour and then points are awarded.

Wed 11 Jul 2018 03:34:30 PM EDT | Distributed Hardware Evolution Project | Sending scheduler request: To send trickle-up message.

Are additional points awarded if the task is completed?

The work units actually do not matter at all. They are basically empty shell as the work is sent back with the trickle and the settings are basically server side from what I understand. So, you can abort work units after running them an hour and still get credits for that hour as normal. In the beginning the trickle was every 15 minutes but they have adjusted it to 1 hours.

some food for thought...
looks like the points people are earning could get adjusted - http://dhep.ga/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=9#156
If anyone has thoughts or suggestions please post in their forums. Please keep it civil and please remember this was an alpha/beta status project and things like points can always change until it goes into production. Therefore not guaranteed....

After 2 days, I've been awarded 1,374,311 points.

40 threads, 4.5 days, 8.3M points. Gonna stop just past 10M I suppose.

Interesting, we are not showing up at Free-DC.

Once they decide on a final credit system, they will start exporting stats to Free-DC et al. I imagine our credits will be adjusted before then. Probably reduced by some unknown factor.

But.....they are already exporting stats, just not for us.
These stats weren't updated since end of June. Probably a work in progress too.

Haven't joined the project yet... Two quick thoughts:
1. People tend to compare credits between projects, even though there is no (and cannot be a) fair basis for cross-project credit.
2. @MichaelDHEP says in this thread that there are proper "proof of work" units in the DHEP application for which credits can be assigned proportionally. Sounds like randomness in crediting can be mostly avoided in this project, once some remaining technical details of the boinc integration are worked out. If so, perfect!

We've (re)started the Distributed Hardware Evolution Project at http://www.dhep.ga .
Interesting. :) Not a BOINC project, though?
Not at the moment. Figuring out a way to get a cross-platform Java client onto BOINC. Will take some time I suppose.
@MichaelDHEP, looks like you made very good progress already; very impressive. Hope the rest of what's needed for good integration into boinc will come together as well.
