Will a nice restaurant re-cork a bottle if you cant finish it? So you can take it home?

I'm pretty sure its up to the restaurant and not atot. ;)

Actually I think restaurants aren't allowed to let you take unfinished alcohol home.

Aren't there some pretty specific laws (by state) regarding recorking and allowing you to take wine home?

Next time bring a cooler to the fancy restaurant so you can take all your unfinished food and beverages home.

Here they recork and seal it, usually by putting it in a paper bag and stapling it shut with the receipt.

Here in WA, you're able to have it re-corked (At least as far as I know). It's tacky at a restaurant but usually fine at a wine bar.

QFT

If i'm gonna pay a 4x markup for the wine, i'm damn sure gonna finish it in a sitting. I've never even come close to a situation in which there was leftover wine. If I go out with my parents and sister, we are always fighting over the wine. (which usually just ends up in a second bottle being bought and consumed)

Anyone know the law regarding this subject in CA?

I am in CA and I want to drive my date to the restaurant. I have finished a bottle before, but it is not the best for driving, thus I wanted the option to not finish it. I am not totally against wasting it.... or better, just making my date drink more :p

"I spoke too soon. Excuse me. A Googling shows that Ca now has a recork law on the books. Seems a Ca restaurant can now recork, put the bottle into a spl one-use sealable bag, give the patron a detailed receipt noting the wine(bought w/ a meal) being taken 'home' and you are free to leave w/ the partially consumed bottle of wine in plain sight until you get to your car, when it needs to be put into the trunk."

Hmmm, they just leave it in the wrinkled brown paper bag that it comes in here...

I know you can bring wine to a restaurant here. They usually charge you a corking fee though...
