Re-Boots

An eMachine IBM with Win XP Boots up to the Windows logo and after a minute or so automatically switches off and reboots. Does this over and over again. Any suggestions please.

Happens from cold, inside has been cleaned and is in good shape.
This rebooting happens at the same time each time and has just started.
Thanks....

An emachine that came with XP? That's pretty old. It may just be a drive, but caps on that board are garbage..

Yeah. Hate to say it, but that era PC is pretty-much a hunk-o-junk these days.

What CPU and how much RAM does it have? It might be a candidate for a Linux distro.

If you have another PC, try burning a Linux LiveCD/DVD (if it has a DVD drive, I have my doubts), or use UNetBootin or RUFUS to "burn" a Linux distro ISO to a USB flash drive, and try booting off of it that way.

If the Linux OS starts to boot, but restarts, that indicates that you have a hardware problem with that PC. Which basically means that you should junk it.

If the Linux OS boot successfully, you can back up your files to a USB flash drive or external USB HDD, and then install Linux onto that hardware, and use it to still browse the web and watch videos. (CPU and RAM permitting.)

Linux Mint (www.linuxmint.com) is popular, as is Ubuntu (www.ubuntu.com). DistroWatch is a site that has all of the newest "distro" announcements.

Thanks, I have a Linux LiveCD/DVD disk so I will try boot from it.
This has been a great computer for email and pictures. I'll do what
I can before I succumb to Win 8 🙂
