Re-appearing folder on desktop

There is a folder on my desktop (WinXP SP2) that I had deleted a few weeks ago and had emptied the recycle bin since. But the folder just showed up on my desktop one day last week. I deleted it again and it showed up again after about an hour and does this consistantly. I've scanned for Virii, spyware, ect and all came up clean.

Ha sanyone seen this before and know how to fix it without formatting and re-installing???

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, the 1st time this happened the folder had it's contents, now when it does it, the contents are there.
 
I'd check if any download manager or something similar (which can create folders on the desktop or other places) is not re-creating the folder every time you reboot the folder or start up your web browser. I had a similar situation a few weeks ago and it turned out Free Download Manager was just making empty folders on my desktop every time I deleted them.
 
That's a good idea but there are no download managers on this PC. It's just WinXP sp2 with IE6. I thought that some web app I use might be causing it, but I can't get it to do it on a consistant basis. I guess I'll have to live with it. It doesn't affect anything, it's just weird.
 
too bad youre trying to delete it. that folder really ties the desktop together.

check your startup programs, turn some off. thats all i can offer.

That has to be the most popular desktop in the world it is on every forum I have been on the last week From car forums to PC forums. Ha!!

As a "second opinion," you might try a scan with F-Secure's online scanner, which checks for viruses, trojans, some spyware, and also uses their rootkit scanner. F-Secure online scanner It also has removal capabilities, unlike some online scanners.

If nothing else is found, maybe some more details about your Mystery Folder? What's it contain, what's it called?
