RDRAM or DDR for P4 2.0GHz?

I'm am configuring a P4 system for work (to use for PhotoShop, Pagemaker etc). I would like to know which would offer better performance and stability: a system based on PC800 RDRAM or DDR Memory. It's been awhile since I have got into Intel specs.

Also which mobo chipset is better the 850 (RDRAM) or 845 (DDR)? Since it will be used for a school yearbook/newspaper I want the most reliable of the two. That is of course a factor on which type of RAM I choose.

The processor speed would be the 2.0GHz with 512 of RAM (either type) and windows2000 or XP Pro.

**Please don't tell me to go with AMD. I am a big AMD fan, but I want to go with Intel here. Thanks!**

Also note: I won't be building this myself. Will probably go with Systemax, Gateway, or even (cringe) Dell.

Thanks

chalk one up for RDRAM. after all, the P4 was designed for it... and in most of the comparisons i've seen the P4's seems to do better with RDRAM rather than DDR SDRAM

RD for such a high clocked proc, if you had a 1.6a or 1.8a then I would say DDR is best for OC'ing.

Always RDRAM, even with 1.6A's. With Samsung RDRAM and good 850 boards, you can oc a 1.6A to 2.1GHz on 533fsb+PC1066 RDRAm which will beat any of the higher clocked DDR setups running at say 2.5GHz.

<< What 850 RDRAM mobo's support at least a 533mhz FSB overclock?? The only ones Ive seen are the modded Abits. >>

ABit th7-2 and Asus P4T-E. Both without any modding.

Asus p4t-E with 600Mhz ICS chips... I bought one at Fry's (inspected it before purchase)

you can order them off atacom (specifically the 600Mhz ICS chips) or go local and check out their stock yourself. The only bad thing is that if you overclock with the Asus board, you cant tweak the core voltage (possibly ruling out 1.8a) unless you do some modding magic.

I wouldnt say a 1.6 at 2.2Ghz RDram will beat a 2.5Ghz DDR, but RDram benches signifcantly higher and is MUCH closer to AthlonXP's PR rating then all other p4's.

Thats pretty sweet dbwillis ....and with DDR!!!! I think Ill go with DDR myself. ATACOM has the Asus mobo with the SIS 645DX chipset right now for $109.
