RDRAM memory question . . .

I have a P4 2.0GHz, 512k secondary cache, 400FSB with 512meg of RDRAM PC800 memory. I have recently begun to play with digital photography with a 8meg camera and scanning of old 35mm color slides and building slide shows containing images and .mov files. Would bumping the memory to 1024meg result in a noticeable performance improvement or just be a waste of $200.00? It is a Dell 8200 and will not take any other type of memory.

8megapixel you mean?
not sure waht 8meg means but im not into photography. if it is really 8mp, then it will have a pretty good increase form more ram.

Try to avoid paying 200.00 if you can....thats too much $$$. I'd take a look through fs/ft forums.....this guy has 2 sticks from a dell ---> link
maybe todays your lucky day and its from same setup as you, who knows, just make sure it's compatable.

One more thing....make sure you have slots available, hopefully dell didn't stiff ya and put 4-128mb sticks in....then your screwed.

It would help some, though adding 2x128 might help as much for a lot less money ($60-70 if you buy used).

You can check memory usage in task manager (ctrl-alt-del) to see how much physical and virtual (disk) memory you're using now.

Also make sure you aren't already using all 4 of your RDRAM slots (4 x 128 instead of 2 x 256).

Unfortunately, a better upgrade to something like an A64 3200+ would require replacing not just the RAM, but also the case / power, motherboard, and CPU and would cost around $500 (less at least $100 for your RDRAM and maybe another $100-50 for the Dell case/mobo/CPU).

I'm only offering dgsg and no one else at this moment. I got cases of these pull from dell

just let me know what brand you got now, if you can look on the sticker, and if its ecc or not ecc..

It sounds like you're implying that forcesho never sent the RDRAM, or did you never follow through yourself in PMing him and paying the shipping?
