With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it :grimacing:

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

Cleaned up the member callout and offtopic exchange.

The most important rules are simple -
1. Attack the post, not the poster
2. No callouts. Shoutouts are fine
3. No flame bait or trolling vendor threads
4. No hard profanity

My second comment was about leaked numbers.

AMD legit sandbagged everyone by not releasing final drivers. The final drivers apparently give a decent uplift, that is the number we are all missing (including me) 🤣

EDIT: can’t leak performance numbers if nobody outside your driver team has access to proper drivers. 😉
Well at least i tried with my ~322mm2 😛

Or the new shiny thing won't be in stock because "we knew the product was great but did not anticipate our competition to be quiet so terrible"...
My two cents:
I don't think AMD was surprised by NV new gen performance, rather the opposite, both are well aware of what each other's competing skus are capable of prior to the launch. The only unknown that could cause AMD to delay the rdna4 announcement is the one that ultimately makes the product good or bad.

Frank azor just confirmed ALL the leaks are WORSE than RL performance. Too the moon. HOO HOO

You have to listen carefully to what is said before jumping to conclusions.

1) He said that real performance is better "than most of the leaks" he had seen (and he likely hadn't seen all the ones out there, he added).

That's important, there may be legit leaks or leaks/fakes that are guiding higher than real performance. His statement does not mean performance is better than all the leaks/fakes/speculations out there.

2) Also note that he specifically says "leaks prior to CES". Again, important distinction. CES 2025 booths already show demos, so there probably are drivers that work now, and any leak originating from computers with these drivers can already be legit (meaning that the real results won't be better).

It doesn’t help when people like these over hype for views

Interesting

It matches 4070 ti super RT. That is a win. Now at what price ??

It cannot be $750, so maybe $500-$600

The name should be a clear hint about its performance. Anything between RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti. Very unlikely to beat RTX 5070 Ti since it has pretty large memory bandwidth advantage. Should definitely be faster than RTX 5070. Real world pricing is probably very close to RTX 5070.

This looks like native 4k raster performance in Wukong.
Quickly checked couple of reviews and it looks like in this game RDNA3 is worse than average. 7900XTX is about 10% slower than 4080/S in raster 4K. So this result is roughly the same as XTX.
Not bad I'd say.

Why is the performance so low with RT off ?

Is there some special sauce in nv branch of UE5 that does this ??

because this game is heavy even for NV gpus. I would much rather see a comparison with the new indy game which looks better and doesn't use UE5. This is also why I'm excited for the new DOOM, no UE5.

when RDNA4 releases RTRT increase should be compared with Avatar: FoP (AMD title) and Indy: great circle(NV title). Going by AMD's marketing, RT should be improved massively over RDNA3. I think 9070XT should easily surpass XTX.

I've had enough of Cyberpunk RT tests loll

in C2077 should be really ahead, 4080S, because C2077 raster love AMD, only question is RT/PT

Ok there is. Super RT i'd assuming its path tracing

just a really heavy game.
UE5 is crap. Looking at the visuals, there's nothing there that should make it run so poorly. I'm glad that Sony has nailed the API with GNM/X along with the tooling and folks like Nixxes exist.
I did some OpenGL a while ago, and I hope Vulkan tooling can reach a point of at least similar ease of use, and proper studios can show their talent without the bloat that UE5 is.
