magnus itself is semi-custom. by that definition Microsoft is the sole entity that can buy this chip from AMD
There are levels of semi custom.

On one hand it can just be a custom GPU shader count and gimped CPU cores, or it could have proprietary partner silicon too.

The only thing that excludes selling it on is proprietary silicon, which can simply be fused off.

Medusa Premium goes into the old socket FP10 using 128 bit LPDDR5.
by old do you mean that the socket FP10 would be already out in CES 2027 ?

By that measure, yes there is nothing stopping an medusa premium launch except inflated lpddr5x prices & amd rdna 5 igp drivers

I think I was a little confused. Just because FP10 has the same (similar) specs as FP8, I thought they were either same or backwards compatible.

I hope to see what the differences will turn out to be to necessitate a new (incompatible) socket...

if Microsoft delays console (magnus) due to software issues / inflated memory/storage prices , could AMD still go ahead & release medusa premium based laptops even before MS releases next gen console 🤔

if we look at precedent, RDNA 2 launched AFTER the consoles

Those are completely unrelated parts from different programs?

DF needs access to nvidia engineers for interviews
No, they don't need that access - DF is uniquely positioned to be very different from gazillion of youtube reviewers, it is in Nvidia's best interest to give them access to engineers, GPUs, that's IMHO obviously.

That does not mean I am a fan of DF - in my view they pay too much attention to minor things and crap all over some pretty good games just because they did not like some fine pixel stuff, but then again it's their specialty to nitpick stuff like that, which is why they've got pretty big following.

In my opinion DF is not NVidia shill, who are typically those who depend on access marking, ie getting new GPUs for review for release day.
They are a press outlet with a very strong financial relationship to Nvidia. I did not chose them for this reason though, and I don't view them as shills. They like new tech a lot, and they understand hardware limitations and IQ issues better than the average press outlet or youtuber. I believe their preview Illustrates my point that the press wants to cover this tech in a positive/balanced fashion.

As for the real shills, reddit is already echoing with voices claiming AMD does not support their GPUs. They pop on AMD GPU news threads, the noise is constant, the damage is ramping up. The only question that comes now is whether AMD can counter this by stepping up for their customers. If they don't chose to support FSR4 on RDNA3 then so be it, but at least accelerate feature updates for RDN4.

A few days ago I stumbled on this post from Ancient Gameplays, who is usually very pro-AMD in his coverage:

Do you have evidence that Nvidia work accounts for at least 10% of their revenues?

Yeah, and DF ain't one of them, it was bad choice from a very large Nvidia shills PR network.

Anyway, stuff like FSR4 requires expensive engineers time, and AMD needs to sell new hardware rather than x2 time for said engineers to make it work on old stuff they've stopped selling years ago.

Now I actually think they'll bring it at later date and they are just trying to make it work good on base PS5, but maybe not - either way one should not expect old product that did not support ML stuff well to suddenly gain new features that totally depend on it, that's just not reasonable.
