LOL,D/load speeds are literally flying this afternoon...wooohoooo!!!!!!!! My burner's gonna be busy today 😀

lol, just wait. RCN is the most inconsistent service I've seen. Some days I get 300 k/sec sustained from most sites, other days I can't load a webpage.

I've been pretty happy with them since I deep sixed the POS RCA modem in favor of a Toshiba

whats RCN? Does it beat optimumonline?

I've got rcn in chicago and for the most part have been very happy with them, except the past few months I've had some temporary outages that have sidelined me. I hope its not the beginning of a trend.

On another note, I keep waiting for them to file bankruptcy. Their stock has fallen down to around $.50 and imo it seems inevitable, particularly given how aggressive some dsl pricing has gotten lately too.

Hey Baffled, long time no see.

Try the upstream 🙂 I had RCN at my last place and managed to get 1.5 upstream. I'm on Speakeasy DSL at my new place. 3 static IPs and server friendly. Slower upstream but I am not complaining.

yeah,RCN upload speeds rule🙂

I've got friends with speakeasy, very useful if you want to throw a server up 🙂

I also have RCN in Chicago, no problems for me.....

I was going to get SBC DSL but they wanted to install a SECOND phone line in order for me to be able to get it....apparently my line now is not digital or something like that.

Actually I like RCN because they appealed to my Fergeni side, I get 2 digital cable boxes with a ton of channels including free HBO and cable internet for less money thab\n ATTBI used to cost me.. I'm cheap 😛

wow you guys have 2 way cable from RCN? 1 way from RCN just isnt worth it for $50/month
Im stuck in the suburbs of New Jersey where its still one-way cable and they're in the process of upgrading. Who knows how long that is gonna take. And Cablevision is in the process of re-evaluating its situation so expansion into my township is put on hold for its OptimumOnline service. Finally the co for Verizon dsl is too far away 🙁. Its so unbelieveable dumb that a nice place to live here doesnt have adequate broadband service.

Your upload speed : 5123825 bps, or 5123 kbps.

RCN was fine for the first six months, but real troublesome for the past 2. Basically, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. it doesn't work at all (cable modem lights constantly flash). Since it's so regular an occurence, I don't believe the cable modem is broken. My only guess is they're oversubscribed in this area during "prime time" but even that I find hard to believe.

I've been too lazy to call them up and complain and demand some money back.

Except for this problem, the throughput I get from RCN isn't mind-boggling but the upstream throughput is pretty good compared to 128 Kbps for most other big providers.
