I don't know if I want an iPod. The way I was looking at this was if it breaks, no big deal, it is $80.

An Ipod is a LOT bigger and not small at all. I can't see myself spending money on a hd based mp3 player until they hold 100gb so I can hold a good chunk of my music.

128mb was enough for a new album everyday (about 1hour workout 5x a week).

CONVINCE ME PEOPLE. Convince me, either way.

Ipod isn't even that big.. it's really thin. Why would you go with a third world country looking device when You can do so much better at the same price.

Not saying Ipod is in the same price category. If you can cough up a lil bit more $$ get something by Panasonic or even a MD player.
What players does panasonic make? I haven't seen anything by them.

http://www.ciao.co.uk/Panasonic_SV_SD75__5155043
:QThat is pretty expensive for only 64mb built in (I searched froogle and came up with $150 for refurb).

you can pick one up on ebay for under 75 bucks give or take. It's a helluva a lot better and better looking than that 3rd world country looking RCA
I don't do that eBay garbage.

yea I hear ya .. I dont do RCA garbage either.

Interesting. This could be another good posibility because it relies upon CF ... which the price is constantly dropping:D

Thanks, I am going to read up on it.

BTW I have been buying these form mydigitaldiscount.com for over 3 years for friends and family. even the first models the NexII rocked.
Its very durable has great sound and a nice looking lcd does Id3 tags and has a great little case, also long battery life.

The headphones are just OK.

renob, I have seen these things posted in HD a couple of times, but people always gave negative reviews about them. Maybe I should think about this also...

I vote for iPod.

Small, looks great, functions well and has a massive ammount of space for songs :)

a HD based mp3 player like ipod will not withstand the constant jostling of lets say jogging. do a search on the ipod forum. http://www.ipodlounge.com/

that constant movement will eventually lead to the heads hitting the platter.

i myself have the iriver 128mb, ifp 380 from bestbuy for 139. i use it to workout everyday, strap it on my neck. no biggie. battery life is decent. 128mb holds enough songs for your whole workout.

don't get the ipod if you're looking for a workout mp3 player. they are too big and too heavy - pain in the ass. trust me, i've tried it. for a workout mp3 player you want to go as small as possible. here's the one i'm using now. it's 256mb (128 built-in).

about the size of a credit card
thinner than a t68i. this is probably the thinnest phone out (besides the queer long and thin sanyo)

this player is pretty old (at least a year), so you can probably get a good deal on it. i bought it used and paid 100 for it (including 128mb SM). there are probably much smaller ones available, i don't know that they'd be able to hold 256mb though. anyway, the moral of the story is that if you're looking for a workout mp3 player, don't get an ipod.

i have the RCA Kazoo .. 64 MBs + 128 card. Great for working out. light and small.

192 MBs is plenty of space. Also consider that most mp3 decoders on portables aren't that great and the headphones prolly aren't the best either. Save space and don't go too high with the bitrate. I usually go about 160.

So they have conformed that it would eventually fail? I run upto twenty miles a week, I figure that is a lot of abuse for any player.

How do you like your iriver?

it will eventually fail if there is constant motion on it. i was really close to getting the ipod for mostly working out purposes. i got positive responses from ATOT'ers buy from people that don't work out with it. people that do, some say its fine for jogging, others say the heads will hit eventually. settled for the iriver. its good, a lot of options on it, radio, backlite, equalizer, so many different options i havent even got around to using it. sound quality is excellent.

edit: i forgot, also could use as microphone, able to record radio on it, etc.. i know im missing others.

I have a Samsung Yepp Pendant mp3 player I use when I workout. It has 128 megs of space, and holds roughly 30 songs. I love it to death. It?s small enough to hold in my hand while I run so I can change songs with the flip of my thumb, and it fits in my pocket/on my waistband when I lift. My roommate has an iRiver mp3 player (dunno the model #, only 64 megs) which he uses and likes. Coming up with a playlist only takes 5-10 minutes, if that. Most of the songs I put on there are the ones I'm trying to learn on the guitar, so I can basically zone out while running (on the treadmill), which keeps the workout from being monotonous.

Anyway, I'd go with the non-iPod, whatever you decide.

I may be in the minority but I'd stay away from the iPod for working out.. I have an iPod and love it but it's just too expensive for me to risk.. Apple has an insanely short warrranty (90 days) and, if you're like me, things happen when you're working out.. I once was jogging when I tripped on a crack in the concrete - I took a tumble and smashed my cd player.. It totally shattered - there was no way that a company would fix it under a warranty (physical damage is rarely covered).. I use my old sony minidisc player for working out.. And,yes, while it looks gay, i suggest a fanny pack or one of those arm strap things.. A minidisc player can be had for $50 used and medias cheap too..

Oh wow. I had no idea the warranty on the iPod is so short - there is no way I would consider an iPod.

I think I might get that lyra, it is uber tiny ... do I want to spend the money now is the question. I need another hd:eek:

Actually, I double checked.. It includes a one year limited warranty.. Their original warranty was 90days but generation 2 and up have 1 year warranties.. Though refurbs usually have 90 day ones (that's an industry wide thing, regardless of the company)..
