RC5? Or OGR?

When I run the client it says I'm doing OGR, not RC5. The RC5 setting says Im doing 0 keys a second, but the OGR says over a million nodes a second. Is something wrong? Im totally new to this 🙂

You aren't doing anything wrong, the DNET client defaults to doing OGR. If you want to RC5 instead of OGR, change the DNETC.INI file parms:

[misc]
project-priority=RC5,OGR=0,DES=0,CSC=0

Distributed.net runs two different projects: RC5-64 and OGR-25. The client, though, can only work on one project at a time. It depends if you want to run RC5, which takes less time to complete each "work unit" but there are more overall work units to search, or OGR, which takes longer but has fewer total units to search. The $1000 prize is only for RC5. 🙂 If you want to run only RC5, you'll need to configure your client using these steps.

Right click anywhere in the client window/
Type "2" (without quotes) and press enter
Type "9" and press enter
Edit the line so it reads like this: RC5, OGR=0, DES, CSC

If you only want to run OGR, edit the line so it looks like: OGR, RC5=0, DES, CSC
Good luck!

edit: changed config for OGR to correct typo (need more sleep 😀) Thanks RaySun2Be

Appletalking,
You need to change the OGR=0 to just OGR if you want to run OGR. The =0 tells the client not to do that project. So if you want to run OGR, the INI parms would be:

[misc]
project-priority=OGR,RC5=0,DES=0,CSC=0

🙂

There we go, RC5 up and running. Im in for that 1k, I need some new parts 🙂. Is there anything about OGR that helps you in any way? Or is it just you helping them? Im curious and stupid, bad combo.

Depends on processor speed, make, model and packet size.

Open your system monitor and take a look at what is consuming 99+% of processor time. This will also clue you in on any memory hogs that may be running.

Benchmarks are here.

It says my system resources are 54% free, even with RC5 running. And Ive had RC5 up for over an hour and no packets have been processed.

Windows 95, PII 233, Dell system. This is what I like to refer to as my "piece of crap". Im getting a new duron system, and its in the mail as we speak. Anyway, its been over an hour and still no packets are done. That website said I should be able to do over 200 a day. Whats wrong?

Pearman, I'm talking about processor useage. If in Windoze - open the task manager, processes, click on the CPU tab. dnetc.exe should be at the top, and in the 99% range. If not - you've got resource hogs rooting around in your system.

We'll get 'em gone!

Post your dnetc.ini file for us please.

[parameters]
id=Its here but I want to leave it out on the boards

[misc]
run-work-limit=0
project-priority=RC5,OGR=0,DES=0,CSC=0

[display]
progress-indicator=auto-sense

[rc5]
fetch-time-threshold=24

I believe the Task Manager DanC was talking about it specific to NT/2k. Although with WinTop you can view how much CPU time a program is getting similar to what Task Manager would tell you. Go to MS and do a search for "Kernel Toys" to get the kernel toys, WinTop is one of the toys.

Yikes, the MS server is acting screwy, poor Billy G can't be too happy.😉
