Welcome onboard
mcveigh. Here's what you need to do:
First of all, I assume from your message that you've already got the client up and running under Linux. Terrific! First you need to make sure that you are doing the right project. There are two different project that distributed.net is running: RC5 and OGR. To set this, type "./dnetc -config" (minus the quotes of course) at a shell prompt. This will take you to the configuration screen that you probably saw the first time you started the client. Type "2" then "9". This will produce a list of projects that the client can run. Only two projects are open at this point: RC5 and OGR. This option sets which your client will run. If you want to run RC5, just make sure that RC5 is listed
before OGR. If you would rather do OGR, make sure it is listed
before RC5. Then hit enter to return to the configuration screen. Type "10" and set this option to "4". This tells the client to work on a project for as long as the project is going before moving onto the next project. This will ensure that you are always running RC5 (or OGR) and not switching back and forth between the two.
Next, let the client do some work. Once you have a fair number of packets, flush them and retrieve some more using "./dnetc -update" Within a day or two you should see your email address show up on dnet's stats page. Stats for RC5 can be found
here, while stats for OGR can be found
here. Once you have your email address in dnet's database, request your password from them. Once you get this in an email, just go to Team Anandtech's stats and click "I want to join this team!" It's as simple as that!
If you have any other questions, please feel free to post here. You'll get all the responses you ever wanted!
