On my K62 500 box I get an error everytime I start MSIE while RC5 is running. It does not do it when I quit RC5. Of course I want to keep RC5 running all the time.
THis is persistant through restarts, and happens consistently. ANy ideas, any help?

I had 2 k6-2 machines that if I ran rc5 and tried to use ie they would crash or come up with errors. The only solution I found was to lower the clock speed to 475. I have also experienced this on a k6-350 that I unassimulated because of stability problems running rc5 100% of the time.

Thanks guys, it's been running seti for over two months, just switched it over to RC5 on a trade out. It never had the trouble when running seti, but now with RC5 it does. Oh well, maybe I'll try a different browser. Thanks again.

Internet Explorer 6.0 beta has at least 1 problem that I have noticed..

If you use Outlook Express for e-mail, in certain cases your e-mail will start appearing with only a the From and To fields, with no message body, not matter what.

Dont know what causes this to happen or how to fix it, but it seems to affect only some computers...

Just to let ya know.

I no longer run any software that MS openly admits is "beta".
I have enough trouble in my life with the stuff they claim is "finished" or "done" or "released" etc...

Why are you trading SETI for RC5 on a K6-2? K6's are best at OGR or that new ECCp project, okay at SETI, and really bad at RC5.

So I could throw a few more RC5 blocks into the deal and get a quad P3 Xeon crunching seti units is why!!! That one box should produce 16 seti WU a day! Nobody is offering me an OGR - Seti trade anyway - I would certainly entertain it if they did!

Wiz-

Which Distributed.net client are you running? /me seems to remember something about this with the newer 469 clients, but I could be wrong.

If your trying to run the 469, try the 463b client instead. That has been a very good one.

Too bad no-one has an OGR/Xeon to trade. K6s are definitely best at OGR, as much as Xeons are best at Seti. :D

I thought that I might have had a Xeon come in to the school as a donation, but it ends up being a P3-500 PPGA, which is certainly no bad thing either. :)

If he uses an older client, he needs to use something before 464, it's one of the clients that can have "bad blocks."

Trading Wiz's K6-2 to OGR now would get too confusing for everyone since he's running RC5 on it for someone else. :) There's no way we could get all the hostnames merged at the TA Cube proxy. ;)

Right you are ViRGE, except the 464s were pre-release clients that we were asked to quit using 'just because.' The 464g was the best thing ever seen for OGR on P2, P3 and Celerons!

Corrected my previous post.

I got the newest client and put it on. I was running the one that came with the TAcube install.
No diff with the way IE works (doesn't work that is).
I do like all the nifty features of the new client tho - very nice.

The problem with the 464 is that per my understanding, it has the same problems as the offical 465 clients. Because of that, Dnet may very well invalidate the work of it in some future point.

In case anyone is interested, this is the thread where Moose asked us to downgrade to the 463 or earlier clients.

Interesting that JonB and Micron had quite a bit of trouble with the 466 GUI client.:disgust:

Moose never really explained what the trouble was with the 8011.464 clients, other than it had "other problems" than the 8012.466. The 466 could mark a partially completed RC5 packet as complete under a certain set of circumstances.

Several of us were rather disapointed at the time with the unexplained loss of OGR production, not to mention the mad scramble to change back to the older clients. :|

Anyway, I hope Wiz gets the problem handled real soon.

ok, but I see no one saying not to use the latest 469 so I am continuing.
That box doesn't get a lot of human interaction anyway so I'm not too worried about the IE thing. I will hope to find someone to trade OGR - seti with it after the current swap is over.
