RC5 Done, Where are the old guys going?!

Oh my.... I guess it's been way to long since I've checked this forum. My cow kept disappearing on my desktop upon reboot and I had to go looking.

Lo and behold, the project is done! At least I made it to 10 Million blocks and top 20 on the team before it finished!! Those were always my ulitmate goals.

So, what are the guys doing that have been around forever? Ray, mech, geoffs, clay, bphantom, ld, engineer, wolfie, dave.... oh my my memory is not all that good.

I'll probably switch all my computers over to a new project, but I'm looking for another long term one that doesn't require any user intervention and doesn't affect the computer it is running it on in the least.

So, where are you guys off to next?

Josh! You sold me my first BP6 & 2/366@550! 🙂

*sigh* I don't know! There's this deafening silence in my cubicle now that they are all spun down for maintenance!

11,975,090 blocks through Mika and 11,518,166 (through Sunday) through dNet!

Geoff

Wow Geoffs, your cubicle reminded me of exactly the way my cube was when I was an Engineer at Hayes Modems (RIP).

Hi Josh (Jatwell) , The majority of the old original crew are still here, you'll see JonB sightings, Mech is the UT specialist, etc. A lot of guys and Gals switched to SETI when the whole thing happened with me over the Cows project especially since Dr Dave Anderson Director of SETI came out in such support for me.

/me waves at Jatwell! 😀

Still around, still got the cane (and a few new ones 😉)

Doing SETI at the moment, in a race to 9K. 😀

Good to see ya round these parts. 🙂

It's like a reunion at an old folks home around here. DanC pops in to say hi, LD makes a post, and now Jatwell! 😀

I enjoyed the ECCp-109 contest and highly recommend it. It will be ending probably by the end of the year. TA is currently #5 in ECCp-109 and could use a boost.

I'm going to DisneyWorld! :Q...Oh....Wait....wrong commercial! 😛

Nice to see some familiar faces (names) around! 🙂

SETI and ECCp.....the remote herd was almost dead anyway! 🙂

more..more..more! :Q

I'm also looking for a new project. also looking for something with a sweet stats program like RC5 had... Anything out there that can do that?

Mebbe i'll setup Seti...

Idle time = non-productivity

That is a really good question. I've been thinking about for several hours and can't decide.
My mini-rack at work is not connected to the internet, so it must be sneakernetted. It has one PC running Win2K, but everything else was floppy boot. That makes ECCP109 the best fit, but if its only lasting thru 2002, I'll have to decide again.

I hate decisions almost as much as I hate filling out forms. 🙁

anyway, keep posting ideas and I'll do something.

SETI has great stats. Several of our members even have their own stats pages! 😀

If you want the least hassle, OGR-25 is the one. Same client, same proxies, same stats severs. In fact if you didn't exclude OGR from your client set up, it's probably already crunching tasty OGR stubs. Mooo!

BTW guys, Josh is a great trader on Heatware too! A completely trustworthy individual. 🙂

Good to see you're still around jatwell. 🙂

I am going to distribute between DF and the IMP project (subject to them to have something to do at any given time).

But first, I think a SETI milestone is attainable fairly soon.

I can't decide myself either. With the end of RC5, my power(Macs) are not so powerful anymore, so I'm sort of going through withdrawls.:Q I'm thinking I'll hop on ECCP and run that down, but from there it's anyone's guess. OGR interests me, especially since it uses the same Dnet client(I'm very fond of that client), but SETI also sounds nice, and lets me pay back those who gave up SETI for RC5 for a time(although I use Outlook as my email client, so I'm thinking it would drive me crazy). For now, the PC's are going to do ECCP, and the Macs are up in the air(They don't do ECCP, so I'm limited to OGR or SETI, both of which are slow).

Crankin' along on SETI@Home here, on my "fleet of one." 😀 If I get a second system, I'll see about some ECCp and/or Folding! 🙂 Good to see you again BTW, Josh.

Well,
I guess I never thought of myself as an old one. 😀 But I guess I have done the project for a while. 😀

I might just go to Seti. Mainly because I had promissed them a while ago that I would switch over. We will have to see what happens...

GeoffS,
cubicle...... box.... cubicle.... Box..... 😀

im not as old as some of these folk, and still consider myself a newbie 😉, now that the key has been found, I have no clue what project I want to do next, none have the client that Dnet did except ECCP but im not real interested in ECCP, Seti is kinda a "waste" for me stats wise as there are so many other contendors out there, its also a pain in the royal arse to set the client up as a service without using 3rd party software, somthing im not interested in doing. I may be talkin crazy, but maybe its just my time. I was doing folding, but it ran into the same problems as seti, very very hard to setup as a service. You'll all know what I'm going to be doing in the next few days.

Hi JonB,

SETI is 350K per WU, it transmits and receives 35 10K chunks at a clip. JW Middleton used a CD Burner to transfer a couple of weeks worth of WU's to and from a machine. I had 6 computers firing through a 24K dial up connection with no problem. So even though substantially more data flow than RC5's 33 bytes it still works fine.

narzy: What OS are you talking about trying to put SETI on as a service? If you're talking NT, 2000, or XP it's *VERY* simple and stable. I can add a client to my fleet in under 1 minute - no kidding.

If anyone needs help setting up SETI as a service under NT, 2K, or XP drop me a PM and I'll be happy to help.

I think I qualify as an old-timer... 😉

Anyway, my fleet is crunching on OGR until I can make up my mind. I'm leaning toward UD cancer research, but I still have a fondness for the SETI project.

ViRGE, as far as I know, those G4's are VERY good at OGR 🙂

Maybe we can keep AT in at least second, if not take back first place? 😀 😀
