Ive been wondering what the "Verizon Wireless" banner stands for (the one at the top of the screen when the phone is open).......Does it indicate when the phone is within Verizons coverage area?

Because t doesnt always show up, and it seems to come on/off during times of use or increased signal strength

And ive also been looking into the difference between EV-DO and 1x........if i dont have EV-DO coverage, is there any gain in turning it off and having the phone always use 1x (like will it free up RAM on the phone, or save battery life)?

My banner changes to Extended Area when I am out of coverage I believe.

As far as EV-DO, I've heard if you are in an area where there is spotty coverage(switches on and off based on your location), you will gain significant battery life disabling this. If you are in an area where this is not offered, then I doubt it would make much difference. Eh, I'd turn it off anyway.
