I guess I'm lucky (and so is my wife 🙂 ) in that the hot wax doesn't bother her. She just doesn't like the contortionist moves required at the waxer. Apparently she gets a "blue wax" with a lower melting point...I dunno, I just send her with the money. 🙂

The "blue wax" is not as painful and is for more coarse hair.
THe one thing about getting that done is you cannot be shy. 😀 You have to bare everything!

I'm black as well, but I don't have razer bumps. Why? B/C I use the mustache trimmer attachment on my electric shaver to shave under my neck (close, but not so close to promote razer bumps) and use the regular shaving head to shave the sides of my face (no problem with razer bumps there). Works well. Nobody is gonna be looking under my neck, so who cares? 😀

My dad has razer bumps real bad. Sucks for him! 😀

Here's how to take care of your face.
First you need to shave with beard trimmers. Wahl use to make some ones, but Conair makes some decent ones. Get ones that will cut close. Shave in the in the direction your hair flows. Try not to stretch your skin. Shave every other day. Afterwards get yourself a warm washcloth and for about 15 minutes hold it on your face. This will help soften the pus and bumps, yea I know that sounds nasty. Then with a sterilized stick pin gently pop the bumps and pull out the hair. Next get a wet Buff Puff and gently in circular motion, go over the the bumpy area. This will help to removed the fluid and dirt from the hair follicle. Then get a good, preferably without alcohol, face lotion and mix it with a little cortizone cream.
Trust me do this and in about a month or so after you get better at it your face will be clear and you'll have the bumps completely under control. During boot camp 15 years ago I had to go to a shaving clinic, because I couldn't shave because of bumps. A black sergeant doctor taught us how to shave. What I found interesting was this can affect anyone. And trust me, I guarantee this works. I was in there with a dude in boot who had about 500 or so bumps. His face was nasty. When we left about 6 weeks later, you would have never known he suffered from razor bumps. It takes some practice, but you can have clean face.

Never had 'em. I know people that get them but no matter what I choose to maul my face with I never get razor bumps.

No help here I guess...

Use a razor with as few blades as possible. If you're using a Fusion, back down to a Mach3 or even a Sensor Excel. Actually a single blade safety razor like your grandfather may have used is probably best.

Lots of warm/hot water.

Use a decent shaving cream! The "retro" shave creams that you use with a shaving brush are the best (Art of Shaving, Truefitt & Hill, Kiss My Face, Tom's Of Maine). Shave with the grain, rinse with hot water, lather again, shave with the grain again. If that works, try shaving across the grain (90 degress from the grain) as well for a closer shave.

Hang around www.shavemyface.com and www.badgerandblade.com. Check out the shaving videos on youtube

Not to go off course here, but where do you live in Africa? Always wanted to visit, but being what it is gotta kinda be careful about where I go.

I personally do this when I shave and found it works, for me anyhow, might help you.

I take a wash cloth and run it under water as hot as I can get it, ring it out and lay down on the bed with that draped over my face. If I have time I'll do this a few times because the wash cloth gets cold fast.

That opens the pores and then I wash my face really vigorusly. Not scrubbing hard per se, but more of a hard massage. Hot rag one more time and then I put on clearasil sensitive skin shave gel.

Shave, SLOWLY. I've found that shaving fast leads to more irritation. If you take long slow even strokes you have to take fewer strokes, thus reducing irritation.

Also, for me I've found that cutting against the grain of my hair growth works best.

Right after shaving, wash face gently with soap and water, then wipe down good with hot rag one more time.

After that I rub on Gillette shave gel, let it dry, then go back and do it once more if I feel it's needed.

I take a hot shower and clean my face well before hand. I've found if my face is clean I get a smoother shave (less cuts etc) then if I dont wash my face.

I also shave twice, once with the grain and once against. If I go right to against the grain its a bit rough.
