I take a wash cloth and run it under water as hot as I can get it, ring it out and lay down on the bed with that draped over my face. If I have time I'll do this a few times because the wash cloth gets cold fast.
That opens the pores and then I wash my face really vigorusly. Not scrubbing hard per se, but more of a hard massage. Hot rag one more time and then I put on clearasil sensitive skin shave gel.
Shave, SLOWLY. I've found that shaving fast leads to more irritation. If you take long slow even strokes you have to take fewer strokes, thus reducing irritation.
Also, for me I've found that cutting against the grain of my hair growth works best.
Right after shaving, wash face gently with soap and water, then wipe down good with hot rag one more time.
After that I rub on Gillette shave gel, let it dry, then go back and do it once more if I feel it's needed.
