RAZOR BUMPS

Everytime I shave I get razor bumps, and they really suck. There is just no way to avoid em, and I just found out that 30 to 40% of Africans experience razor bumps as well as people with curly hair. I don't like them, or how they make my face look. I'm self conscious about it, very, infact, I know we are all Kanye west was just the first to admit it.

Does anyone know of any products that can help get rid of this face deforming disaster?

There is a powder (i think called Magic Powder) that is a hair removal aid specifically for people with coarse hair.
It works very well in removing hair and preventing razor bumps. You can find it anyhere razors, etc are sold. It is in a little black and gold cylinder about 5-6" tall.
Try it. :)

Personally, nothing worked until I switched to a nice electric shaver.

You know, my cousin did tell me to switch from blade to a razor and what not, I think that's what I might just end up doing if the "magic Powder" doesn't work. What electric razor do you use?

I have lots of fairly coarse facial hair == lots of shaving.

Shave after you've taken a hot shower. The water soaks into your hairs and makes them softer and easier to shave.

Make sure your razor is sharp. Dull razor means razor burn.
Note: You can keep razors sharp far longer by dipping them in alcohol, rubbing will do, after you're done shaving. It's actually the minerals in the water that make a razor dull. Razors used to last a week, week and a half, I've now been using the same razor for about 3 weeks.

Use a face cream when you're done. I prefer Neutrogena's "Post Shave" lotion.

Further note: If the razor is dull, or these don't help, putting another layer between you and the razor works. Use a layer of soap, preferably with a moisturizer on your face before you apply the shaving cream. (Don't wash the soap off.)

Just some thoughts. If you're using an electric razor switch to a regular razor. In my experience electric razors give terrible terrible razor burn.

What I use it the fusion cream and razor. and I also have a gillette after shave cool balm and a nivea after shave cooling balm. I use all of them when I shave, and i still always seem to get these bumps on my face. I'm more specifically looking for something to get rid of the bumps, cause it seems like they are unavoidable.

Hrmm...my wife is afraid of those kinds of products in "other.... areas" so I just send her to the waxer every so often. :)

Bath and Body Works sells this aftershave gel that cures razor burn. My dad gets is very badly, and it's the only thing that has worked for him. Comes in 4 scents- smells really good too.

I personally do this when I shave and found it works, for me anyhow, might help you.

I take a wash cloth and run it under water as hot as I can get it, ring it out and lay down on the bed with that draped over my face. If I have time I'll do this a few times because the wash cloth gets cold fast.

That opens the pores and then I wash my face really vigorusly. Not scrubbing hard per se, but more of a hard massage. Hot rag one more time and then I put on clearasil sensitive skin shave gel.

Shave, SLOWLY. I've found that shaving fast leads to more irritation. If you take long slow even strokes you have to take fewer strokes, thus reducing irritation.

Also, for me I've found that cutting against the grain of my hair growth works best.

Right after shaving, wash face gently with soap and water, then wipe down good with hot rag one more time.

After that I rub on Gillette shave gel, let it dry, then go back and do it once more if I feel it's needed.

That is what i usually do, but in between... it does work in a pinch. Although, i agree, nothing beats hot (painful) wax. :D

I found I only get bumps when I don't shave directly after a shower. Do it if you have not.

Shave against the grain? That's like suicide for me.

I guess I'm lucky (and so is my wife :) ) in that the hot wax doesn't bother her. She just doesn't like the contortionist moves required at the waxer. Apparently she gets a "blue wax" with a lower melting point...I dunno, I just send her with the money. :)
