Razer's thrown down the gauntlet at XBox, PS3 and Wii

$2800 actually, and it has a 320 GB hard drive. You know, those things with spinning platters that cost next to nothing because there is superior technology available.

And it has GeForce 555M graphics.

$2800.

the only thing going for it is that it has a form that rivals an Apple, but just like Apple (if not more so) its vastly overpriced for what it is

YAY, RAZER HAZ SAVED PC GAMING WITH A $2800 LAPTOP, EVERYONE WILL GET ONE!!!

cmon Razer, when peopled balked at $500-600 PS3 systems, I don't think a $2800 system is going to fly

You know at that screen size/resolution a 555M would probably max just about anything at least. But the price is awful and a mechanical drive at that level is silly.

That's a hot laptop and I would love to own it. But not for 2.8k. Nothing ground breaking here, I can move along now.

It looks cool, and I love the customizable touchscreen on the right, but that price is ridiculous.

I do hope more laptops start incorporating LCD touchscreens on the keyboard, it's a nice addon.

I've never bought anything from Razer, I used to be neutral about them, but this... this makes me... Fuck you Razer.

1) They're feeding the whole "PC gaming is dead" falsehood that too many ignorant people have. Please stop perpetuating this. I hate it.

2) And THEN they go on to release a $2700 laptop?! Jesus Christ. If PC gaming is dead at all, it's because of crap like this.

Right now there's a bunch of executives, sitting around a table in a conference room somewhere, watching the reactions of PC gaming communities and other gamers on the web, and they'e saying "Well, shit. We're retarded."

On the bright side, maybe we can expect a firesale on these laptops a la the HP tablet.

lol, keep thinking that.

You seem to be the type that's right about everything and knows exactly what everyone wants. Guess what, buddy, you don't. We each have our own personal preferences, and if some of us like mice and keyboards better than controllers, so be it. You have no room to speak for everyone and say that a controller is a superior device for everyone to use in everything except FPS games because that simply isn't true.

Do the other 55 posts you made in the past 7 years suck as much as this one?

KB/M > Controller for FPS

Fact.

lol you think they do that.

also edit to my earlier comment, i thought it was a 555m in an ultraportable, its not nearly as impressive in a 17inch model but it'll still be sufficient at least. though i cant see how they can charge this much unless the thing is absolute top notch build quality and a dynamite screen. and even then that's nice but definitely not critical to a gaming machine.

Sufficient being the key word here. It's not a very capable card. Rather, it's roughly equivalent to an 8800gt... which is fine, but not exactly great for 2011.

That is expensive for only a 555m. Id rather have an Alienware with a 6990m for the same price. At least it would max games out which the 555m is not capable of.

Scratch that the Alienware 14x is better because it is way less and has the same GPU.

Now I'm really confused..because for $2800 I can build something much better and still have enough money left over to buy a 50" HD tv to go with it...dumbasses.

Quoted form Gamestop:

"We'll start with a few basic stats around the Blade, but we're going to let the first one sit all by itself for a moment: $2,799."

I stopped reading right there. I dont care how good or interesting this device is. It doesn't exist for me.

I was a bit surprised that they threw a GeForce GT 555M into this thing. It seems like they cared more about it being fairly thin rather than it being more capable as a gaming laptop.

The 555M starts to hit some low numbers (30-40 FPS) in relatively demanding games at 1600x900 with some of the bells and whistles turned on, which means it would be fairly unplayable or barely playable at 1080p.

You can buy an Alienware M18x with 2x AMD Radeon 6990 Mobile in Crossfire for less than this laptop.

Wow...

A console killer sure, but at that price?

That is like a car company saying, "We are gonna crush all these little compact cars with gas mileage and speed, but oh, it will cost $85,000 for the technology..."

whelp, whoever was in charge of this campaign will never work in advertising again.

A full page ad in the Journal for this? Seriously?

I myself will buy one...

When it's for sale for about $1200 after no one pays the outrageous price for this thing. The HP Laptop I just bought for 900 has better specs than this thing other than the processor.

The chassis design is quite nice, but it's not a $1000 dollar upgrade to what I got from HP.
