Razer and Logitech drivers

I am trying to decide on a new gaming mouse. One of the things I want is for the driver to let me choose a configuration for the buttons based on the application that is running. So for Q3 it is a certain config, for Photoshop maybe back and forward are mapped to zoom in out, etc.

Can someone tell me if either the setpoint drivers or Razer drivers can do this? It looks like setpoint might have this ability, but I don't see it in the razer driver screenshots.

I'd really like to check out the MX Revolution but I have read it is not so great for gaming. So I am considering MX518 and Razer Deathadder.

Smooth/sensitive movement with no acceleration in games is paramount. I prefer high-sensitivity and short/fingertip control. Any other suggestions besides these two mice?

If you want a Logitech gaming mouse, the G5 or G7 is best. Preferably the G5, as the G7 requires a battery swap almost every day (albeit they're rechargable and included). The MX518 is just as good, though not QUITE as fast. I don't ever use 2000dpi though, so you could probably do the same. I have never used any other gaming mouse, so I'm not sure what short/fingertip control really is.

The short/fingertip dealie is that he wants to move the mouse in a 1-2 square inch space and get full motion range on the screen.

As to what SetPoint has, it doesn't have "I ran this app, give me these settings". It claims to be able to detect when a game is running and allow you to have these specific options (on/off): keep mouse accel, keep mouse speed, keep left/right hand button assignments, keep keypress button assignements, keep other button assignments (dbl-click, autoscroll ...)

So Logitech definitely doesn't have what you want in the driver.

No, the mice you are looking at are top of the line for gaming. See this for more info. They reviewed the DeathAdder shortly there after. That's an awesome mouse. I have the DeathAdder so I can confirm. It is quite expensive though, so if you want to save some money get the mx518. I checked the drivers and couldn't find anything to adjust mouse buttons to a certain program.

I haven't had a lot of time with a real Razer driver, but my Habu's drivers have a "do this if I run this" function. Logitech drivers are very invasive and usually buggy in my experiences.

Just got a G5. The new one, with 2 thumb buttons. I love it. Love it. A lot.

Anyways, I like how the companies package their product so that you can go in there and put your hand on the mouse (with plastic covering it in the package) and just get a good feel for how that mouse will feel, without it even leaving the package! Helpful in Best Buy, where they have all the "office" mice unpackaged and waiting for you to try out, but the gaming mice are kept in box.

Anyways, my advice is to put your hand on the mice first. And then buy a G5. It rules.
