I was thinking about getting a pair of Oakleys. I'm 17, with a job, but I can't afford Oakleys (especially when I'm on AT snagging deals..) so I figured I might get a pair of fake Oakleys (yes, It's all about the style at my age :)). I was told by other Anandtechers that, lo and behold..there are consequences to these: including distorted eye vision, increased UV absorption, and such. So, I figure, go for glasses that aren't as expensive. I went to my Sunglasses Hut today and checked them out, and a pair of Rayban's caught my eye.

$55US for silver frames and blue lenses, not bad. But I'm not sure how Rayban is, b/c their site is crappy (Almost none of the images work) and I've heard the horror story of a guy who had to return his Rayban's. Any warnings/opinions?

If not, anyone know where I can get rebates or where I can get them cheap?

Thanks, Simon

Raybans are good. Decent optics, good scratch resistance. Some of them run a bit too dark for my liking though.
If you don't like the idea of carrying around a cleaning cloth wherever you go, I'd look into Smith glasses. They're the best I've ever owned plus they're glass lenses meaning they can be cleaned with a t-shirt. :D
(oh, of COURSE you can clean your Raybans and Oakleys with a T-shirt, but you run a great risk of scratching them unless you get your laundry out of a clean room...)

don't get cheapies no matter what. they suck. there is a difference. i have ray bans myself, polarized gunmetal wire things, don't know the model, they're awesome. love the things. been wearing glasses or contacts for decades, and these are as good or better than most of the glasses i've had. i'm thinking about getting prescription ones as well.

We don't have Rite Aid in Canada - Or Bestbuy (That's coming soon) - Or Target - Or Farmer Jack's - Or ...

The list goes on..
