Because MLB has similar rules to the other sports in the the only across the board guarantees are for veterans, length of time with one team, fully guaranteed for the current year etc... Every other guarantee is something that must be negotiated into the contract, just as is explained in a snippet in one of those links. As Chris Mortenson said on air during the last NFl labor dispute, none of the leagues have across the board contract guarantees it's up to what the player can negotiate.

MLB contracts are generally guaranteed. Clubs don't like this so they are trying to move to the NFL model, which isn't guaranteed.

Okay, I've finally watched the video and I am now against Ray Rice in this case. My previous arguments were based on their statements and the prosecutor deal. He wasn't attacked. It wasn't mutual. And the fact he made her apologize for it, is pretty fucking sick. Even if he felt she was coming at him for a fight, his reaction after she hit her head pretty much says it all. He didn't give a shit about her well being.

Now, on to the NFL. I really don't believe they didn't view this video until today. And, even if they hadn't, I went back and rewatched the previous video and read the statements given. There was no "Oh, we were fighting and I pushed her and she hit her head" type of shit. There was little doubt he knocked her out. At that point, the NFL should have reacted and suspended him far more than 2 games. They knew damn well what happened and should have done far more. But, as with most things, unless it gets public, they don't give a shit.

Also, it should be noted, there are 2 more active players with pending domestic abuse charges that I know of. Bet they won't get cut...

He did not accept the plea deal. The plea deal was like 1 year probation and counseling.
His lawyer asked to let him in the first time offender program or they go to trial.

He will have a clean record after 1 year.

The 2 game was a slap on the wrist, even he knows that. So why fight it when its such a low punishment.

For the record, I've pissed off a lot of women in my life and they have responded as expected. Attacking me with whatever they could find.
