Question RAX35 Nighthawk AX4 weird issues

Has FW v 1.0.3.80_1.0.1 which the GUI check for updates says is up to date.

Can this router run 3rd party firmware? This is for a client.
He was renting ISP provided modem, which was not baselined in the beginning and getting double NAT issues, I had it baselined (bridge mode) for him, all was well. Until he wasted to save $12 a month.

He purchased a Motorola Zoom MB8600 modem, which is not a gateway.

In the router GUI it does have a speedtest under the QoS tab and it detected 900Mbps down and 60 up. I turned the QoS on.
I found that his (friend's made cat5 cable) was causing issues, ie my device wouldn't detect connection. Nor would it pass good speeds. Replaced cable and got the 900+ router detection.

Ok problem is, once the router is put into the network speeds tank. Like 150 and less speeds. I know he has changed ALOT of settings in the router, dues to a camera network and the fixing of the double NAT before baselining the modem.

I recommended factory resetting the router and starting from scratch.

Main question is can this accept third party firmware, and what settings could be causing the throttling thru the LAN ports?

Can this router take 3rd party? Duma OS?

UPnP maybe an issue? I couldn't spend alot of time in it at the time. He's reluctant to start over due to camera setup, only thing changed was modem, unless he inadvertently did something with MAC address filtering.

Yes, I would recommend setting router to factory settings (then set up SSID/PW again).

If that doesn't fix the wired WAN-to-LAN speeds, I would attempt to downgrade the firmware to the prior version. (If possible, some router mfgs / models make it hard / impossible to downgrade firmware revisions. Asus has a utility that you can use, rather than the menus.)

If that doesn't fix it, I would suggest, yes, third-party firmware, if available, or sell off the router, and buy a different one from a different mfg.

But before all of that,, make sure to swap in fresh new PRE-MADE cables, between the router and the modem, and the router and the PC.
