And you believe that came to market without some regulation?

The apples were probably from Noble Orchards, so there's some regulation. The nectarines were just from a guys yard, so absolutely no regulation there at all.

* EDIT* I just got corrected by my wife, the nectarines are from a small local grocer.

One, you have a great wife - Two - most of what you buy is because of system that has been in place for decades to stave off those that could shove shoddy product onto the consumer...

Actually I think the government should back off.

We need some natural selection here - if those dumb enough to think 2000 years of progress in fields like food production, hygiene and medicine are a waste of time, perhaps they deserve to see how sick they can really get without it.

You would have to believe that the consumer is shove worthy.

Sir, would you take my inferior product, and accept that I will ask the Government not to fuck with you?

Sir, you know I fucked you, you know I am going to fuck you again.

Here's the name of my Lawyer, and my Insurance company.

Thanks! She's better then I deserve.
I don't drink raw milk, or raw eggs or raw fish, there's an inherent risk to all 3 of them. In my opinion an informed public should be able to make the choice themselves.

I'm as much opposed the government being in my kitchen as I am having them in my bedroom. I'm a big boy and if I want to take risks.....they should be mine to take.

That philosophy is what caused Mothers Against Drunk Drivers to be created.

The government is wasting their time with this. Raw milk sucks. Today's milk is fine, it tastes funny tomorrow, and is sour the next day. The people who are bandwagon jumpers will get off it when they realize they have to buy milk every day, and the hardcores won't be affected.

Give me ultra pasteurized, good for two weeks in the fridge milk any day.

With the sensationalism and link to a less-than-reputable "news" site, I thought I had stepped into a Dave thread.

Wow... Some of the posts are beyond retardation... This fear of milk is completely irrational.

Maybe we should be afraid of brown paper bags too. Or tap water...

I drank raw milk when I was a kid, and I've been drinking it for the past 6 months and loving it... I'm a 40 year old, healthy engineer... I think I can choose for myself what milk I want to drink...

Let the sheeple enjoy their gov't sanctioned pastuerized "milk product"...

It's amazing to see the lengths people will go to defend their right to have thier freedoms destroyed...

Holy shit - you have totally changed my opinion. Hey guys - fuck the CDC, FDA, Mayo Clinic, WSDA* because they got it all wrong. Caveman is fine and he drinks raw milk so its clear that everyone else was wrong! All those scientific studies, tests and experts in no way stack up to his claim. Raw milk for everyone!

*Which has found pathogens in raw milk every year since 2005

It's just sad that the government has to waste time protecting people from themselves.

That's the whole point: it shouldn't

I prefer to drink pasteurized milk, it makes sense to do so. If someone chooses not to, why should someone else force them to do it? Live free, make your own choices as long as you don't hurt other people.

How many people have *actually* gotten sick from raw milk?

I don't know about milk but I know that the US regulatory attitude toward raw milk cheese is completely and utterly retarded. People in France aren't keeling over dead from eating the stuff. As for the milk itself as long as it's clearly labeled as such I don't have a problem with it being sold. We let people smoke cigarettes and those are much worse for you than raw milk is.

Nobody is saying that you should be forced to drink raw milk, it's the other way around. I'll go with logic myself, but if someone wants to drink raw milk that should be up to them.

Yep. I walked into the orchard after paying a small fee and got the fruit off the tree. I didn't need any regulation to protect me from that dastardly "nature" stuff.

If raw milk is allowed, it is cheaper in many ways than having to build, use and maintain pasteurization plants.

Big Biz will go cheaper if it can and it is legal.

Also, you think that we would not be paying for a good deal of these people getting sick? It would show up in both our public health care costs AND our private insurance.

I am all for "organic", but crying out "1984" over milk?

Next on the list: Fecal Matter - why does it matter?

It matters because the government raiding peoples houses to confiscate food items is absolutely ridiculous.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SXVpvgXo9Q

Here's a start. There's plenty of other documentaries you could get your hands on if you're interested in what you're eating.

Basically the FDA is a sham and they have companies like monsanto infiltrating them in order to push products through with none or with minimal testing.

Only people in the next 15-20 years will have a grasp of the effects of pumping cows and chickens full of hormones and antibiotics. We're possibly seeing it now w\ the rampant trend of cancer in our society.

I would not drink raw milk, but I don't see why we need a nanny state government to control what kind of milk someone chooses to drink. As for the health care costs and such, if you start taking that into account, then shouldn't the government outlaw all soda pop? Shouldn't it then mandate skim milk only? Where does it end?

The precautions taken to handle raw milk do not make it cheaper. I have milked cows (and enjoyed it) but two things always have floated to the top of a pail of milk. There is nothing wrong with controlled raw milk production. I buy it from time to time and enjoy it.

I never said it should be illegal but to claim that the fears are irrational is absurd to say the least
