easy, Thanks for firmware link!

Just installed it. Resume actually works now. Not sure how much faster the file indexing is. I'll have to play around with loading up more mp3s and test.

The firmware makes a world of difference, thanks easy2kill. The player loads up almost instantaneously, the album indexing is a plus, and the tuned-up EQ does raise the volume up a bit.

Despite the problems it's had, it's still one of the best MP3 players for the price.

The deal is still there. I was about to go for this, till I checked the ResellerRatings for this site. 4.74 is not good. I'm tempted, but I'll pass.

So does the firmware fix the power on problem? I'm tempted to get this for my mother but she won't want it if you have to remove the battery everytime to power it on.

Mine never had this problem to begin with.

I believe the power-on problem only occurred when the batteries began to run low, so it isn't something that happens all the time; rather, only when the batteries are near death.

I noticed the power-on problem when my battery go low too and this was after I updated the firmware. So to answer someone's question the firmware did not fix the power-on problem.

I bought this item from this deal, and it is actually rather impressive for it's size. The display is nice for a player that small, and the sound quality is good enough for what I want it for (workouts at the Y). The included headphones are absolute garbage though, and the firmware update is worth it. Seriously, about the headphones, if you don't use something else, you may think the player itself is broken. They are that bad. Product shipped on thursday (after an e-mail reminder from me) and was at my door saturday via USPS priority mail.

Computer Geeks has these for the same price ($39.99) + $7 shipping if you use a $10 off code (available many places). I got two and like them A LOT.

When I upgraded the firmware, the indexing actually seemed to get slower. Also, it now lets me play either the songs from the onboard flash or the SD/MMC slot, but not BOTH at once. WTF?

Great little player for $40, works with 128, 256 and 512 meg SD cards...you can get two Kingston 512 meg SD cards for $50 after two $15 MIRs at Buy.com (less another 2% if you go through www.ebates.com (link uses my email for referral if you sign up) first!) -- how can you complain about this player for the price??? Even the bundled ear buds are fairly decent!

The updated firmware is posted on Rave's site now.

I spent the extra 13 bucks and got it new from walmart.com. I don't trust refurbed stuff. Lots of times they wipe it down and put it right back in the box. For 61 shipped it was still cheaper than the 256mb Sandisk MP3 player (and not too small).

According to Rave's website, there's only a 90 day warranty new, and that's what is being offered refurbished anyway.
