Went to leave for work yesterday morning and as I was backing up I realized I forgot my wallet (you know how you can tell when you sit down whether you have your wallet or not?). I threw it in park and ran inside...stupid me, while I was inside I decided to top off my coffee for the ride to work. As I was pouring my coffee I got interested in the Hannity and Colmes show they were replaying at 2:00am...they had a couple of servicemen that got injured in Afghanistan on. I swear it couldn't have been more than 5 minutes, but when I went back outside my car was gone! :|

Believe it or not, this is the 2nd car I've had stolen in the past 4 years. The first time the cops found the car less than a week before AAA was going to cut me a check (They wait 30 days before they pay you the value of the car). It was sitting on the side of the highway all trashed to he11. Keyed all four sides, antenna snapped off, horn was missing (I think they thought it was an airbag), radio was missing (of course), dash was completely off (don't have a clue why).

Anyways, when you take into account that this is the 2nd car I've had stolen and combine that with the fact that my tires were slashed last year, I figure it's time to move.

Man, I hope they don't find the Nissan. If they do it's going to be trashed.

*****************************************

UPDATE
Insurance company called today. They said they're ready to cut me a check...$14,498.00!! That's about $430 more than what I paid for the car. :) Plus they're picking up the tab for the rental I've been driving all this time. And to think, I used to hate AAA. Go figure.

Nobody bash him for leaving his car running. Stealing is stealing, whether or not the crook is tempted. People suck.

Dood that sucks. Thieves suck :| That's why I never leave my keys in the ignition, running unless I'm warming up the car

There's your problem right there. What's the harm in shutting down the car and restarting it?

The lady at the police station already chewed me out. When I called the cops, she was like "You left it running?! And unlocked?!" :)

Thats crap. People in my town leave their cars running unlocked all the time. I dont think there is much theft here either.

Its still not right to steal someone's things. If i leave a Rolex on my front porch, it is still mine and not anyone elses. I often leave my door unlocked or wide open with my things just sitting out in the open. Its just not worth worrying about losing something. Heck, thats why i have insurance isn't it?

I know, I know. But come on...it was only going to be for 5 seconds. ;)

Oh well, sh!t happens.

Only thing I'm worried about is if AAA doesn't honor my claim because I left it running and unattended or something like that. The cop who showed up said he could've ticketed me if he had seen the car, there's some ordinance about leaving a running car unattended.

Assuming they find the car... and it has his keys in the ignition, how is he supposed to account for that?

tallbill, you are not the most practical person in the whole world. either that or you have infinite amounts of cash. where do you live man? hell, i live in a pretty decent suburb, and i have had my bike stolen twice. first time unattended, second time locked... just cause stealing isnt right doesnt mean people dont do it.

LOL for some reason this reminded me of Jay Leno's monologue from a few days ago. Some dude left his car running to warm it up and went back inside his house to finish his coffee. When he went back outside his car was jacked. He called the cops and they said they'd look into it. It the mean time he started up his wife's bimmer to get to work or something and he again went back inside to finish his coffee. The bimmer got jacked too. :D

But sorry dude, that sucks. It never seems like it's that long. I was at my college library once and left my things to put a book back. Couldn't have been more than 2 minutes and my CD player got jacked. My friend was at a nearby PC terminal too and he didn't see jack.

Exactly.. so what does this have to do with him leaving his car running?

It was a bad idea, that's all. Obviously, if he felt like his car was going to get stolen, he wouldn't have done it.

The thief is the one at fault here, not the owner.. Period.

well i go to school in dekalb... and i live in a subarb of chicago.. maybe i've been spoiled, but i dont see how locking my door helps me at all. It only increases my chances of getting locked out of my house. If someone wants to break in, at least they wont damage my door getting in.
