Taken from the Ratpadz.com website:
This Ultraslick? surface will give you another weapon to use on your way to a higher frag count. Optic mouse? No problema. Heck this thing is even great for graphics or CAD folks.
I have a Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse and I just purchased the Ratpad cause it's cool and well advertised for Optical and ball mice. The problem is that it sucks on my optical mouse. It's good on my old mouse with the ball but I just don't wanna go back to the old technology. What's up with this pad or is it just my mouse? Ratpadz.com says it works great for both types but there's a major difference if you actually try it. Payed $30 CAD and it doesn't work :(.

Anyone else have a similar incident?

PS
If this thread doesn't belong in this forum, than which forum should I go to?

Of course not, it's by Kyle Bannit. The one that I received was full of scratches, dents, etc etc. Overall, a waste of $20. Also, there's a dead spot in the middle. My Razer Boomslang 2k gets stuck on this once in a while, and it appears to be on all of them. I've heard about this problem before. Get an everglide, or hell, a sheet of teflon would be the best :D

So wtf can we do? Refund? Cause, honestly, it sucks when you place an optical mouse on it. It doesn't even move the cursor no matter how you try to move your mouse on it.

Any place to get the Surface 1030 in person, and not over the web? I refuse to pay $7 shipping on a damn mouse pad.

I've just read some of the reviews for this Surface 1030 and it looks impressive. Anyone using an optical mouse with this pad and can actually confirm if this thing works? Man I can't believe most of the sites that reviewed the Ratpadz say it's great for both mice. That's BS. Ratpadz aren't even designed for optical mice. Rough wooden surface with bumps and scratches all over it. I'm giving this thing back.

the Ratpadz are fine mouse pads and they work perfectly well with optical mice, in my opinion. they are of higher quality material than the Everglide pads, in my opinion, and are better designed than the Everglide pads, once again in my opinion. maybe some people are experiencing user error with them. that being said, i like my surface 1030 very much. just pay the $7 shipping: it's worth it.

physical manipulation as opposed to attempted telekinesis would probably fix this problem.

Honestly man... Maybe my it's my mouse or this pad is defected. I will physically push the damn mouse on the pad but the cursor on desktop won't move. If it moves, it's only by an inch or two, even if I move the mouse by a foot or more in any direction, the cursor will move a little and distorted. BS. Not for Optical mice, imho.

Its not all the Ratpadz thats at fault here, there happens to be an issue with the ratpad and this specific mouse only. I bought a ratpad, then a week later i ordered a cordless desktop optical....while i was waiting on its delivery (tooko a few weeks, major stock problems as it was just out) i noticed on HardOCP that they mentioned theyd had problems with it...the corded version works fine. Logitech altered the mouse for its cordless incarnation, and it simply screws its ability to work on the Ratpad for some reason.

I dont particularly care because IMO this cordless mouse is not a gamers mouse anyway ( my friend uses it as his only mouse and i can SEE the lag/jumpiness compared to a corded mouse when using it in a game, hehe ) and i ordered the setup almost completely for the keyboard, never intending using the mouse at my desk..so I just ordered a M$ IE3 the day (Truth be told, i ordered it 3 weeks beforehand but my order got cocked up in a server problem so it was never processed and i held off ordering it again for some reason) i recieved and tested the mouse and found exactly what you have. It works beautifuly.

This is an issue thats been posted on the front page of hardocp quite a few times, but i guess thats only help if you happen to read it and remember these things. I do suppose they should post a notice on the ratpadz site, i think there was one at one point but it seems to have gone walkies when they redesigned it.

When I got my ratpad a day or so before all my other computer parts arrived, I tried it on my old CrapPaq P200 with an M$ optical mouse. It was very erratic.

I don't go to HardOCP so there's no way I'd read anything about Ratpadz not working correctly on my mouse. But I don't believe Logitech fvcked up this particular mouse I have now. I like this mouse for both gaming and windows lurking, and there's no way I'm changing it for a while. This Ratpadz is crap. It's definetely not worth the $27.46 CAD I payed at my Bigfootcomputers.com store. I thought this Ratpadz had a flat surface, not a rough surface. This thing is definetely NOT designed for optical mice.

The ratpad is a good product for the MS Explorer Optical mouse but at the same time I would never trust a product from Kyle Bennett. I have never seen a website editor spout out so much hypocrisy and be so ignorant.

I just purchased an everglide mousepad (the color is white) from a user in the AT fs/t forums and it sucks with all my optical mice. I tested this on all three mice I own and on friends' computers. It doesn't read well at all. I've tried my friend's black everglide and it works well. I think it depends on the surface of the pad.

One thing I don't quite understand is that I use a white mousepad currently and it works fine with my opticals. The everglide is white as well, but it could be from the "grooves" ?? Anyhow, don't get a white everglide.

I've got a few ratpadz that I've had for a few years now and am using optical mice on all of them. They've been the best mousepads I've ever had. Only problem that I've had with them was the rubber feet falling off them. This is easily fixed with some superglue though.

May I ask which optical mice you used with it? Any of them cordless? Cause if this is true what robg1701 is saying than there should be a god damn note on the Ratpadz.com web site saying Cordless Optical mice don't work with this! Would save people money and at the same time some respect for Ratpadz. I'm giving this thing back on tuesday. It's no use for me and I'm not going to buy anything from this Kyle person everyone talks about in this thread.

Please note i did not say Cordless Optical mice in general, just this mouse, the Cordless MouseMan Optical. Its the only mouse im aware of having particular problems with the ratpadz. Ive got one so i know exactly what you mean, but like i said before it doenst bother me. As far as im aware the optical M$ cordless mice for example are fine. I have a corded Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 and it performs superbly in conjunction with the ratpadz. Im satisfied.

Hmmm that still should be mentioned on the site. Something like, "Not all mice work properly with this pad" would make my day. Not this crap with high ads on how it works on everything great. I gotta buddy who just bought a Microsoft Cordless keyboard and mouse. I'll check this thing out on his PC.

Well, nothing is a given with computers...just as you used to get those tacky mouse mats with PCs that werent worht the fabric they were made from, theres always going to be room for problems with a mousemat or any other thing....but lets face it, its not the end of the world, were talking 27 canadian dollars here, not a lot of money and if you can return it then all the better. Its not like the thing caused a feedback surge in the mouses wireless reciever which proceded to blow your PC up is it, it just doesnt work, hehe... :p

Unfortunatrely, sh$t happens.

I just received my Ratpadz a week ago and love it. It works great with my Microsoft Optical USB mouse and my Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse.

A++++, one of the best purchases that I have made recently.

I notice a much better grip and precision with my ratz.... I dont know, maybe its isolated incidents becayse I would recommend mine to anyone...everyone of my friends that has tried it has eventually gotten one. However, I have never used 1030 or everglide, so no room to compare....
