Greetings local Overloards,

I've come today with a question. A question about Internets. I was wondering if VB has the ability for a point system. I believe a point system implemented in individual posts, and users having an overall rating, out of say 5, in their information box below their avatar.

The system could be sorted into a couple or three categories a la slash dot. Funny, Informative and Insightful (i believe). Even one catagory would be very useful.

I think it would have the following advantages (over no such system)

  1. Ranking: Because we all want to have more X than another dude (aka pride and added incentive for people to post a bit more civilly).
  2. Search/Sort: By post/thread ranking (sort of like the 'most helpful/fully/insightful/ feature on some sites)
  3. At a glance: Anyone, new or old to the forum could see someones rating over the three categories and instantly have a good idea what type of poster they are and respond accordingly. (Sarcastic, troll, wise, intelligent etc)
I understand that VB has a general 5 star thing on a per thread basis, but its quite too little. The simplicity of a per post rating system really has huge usefulness and I hope it it can be considered, especially for a tech site of this status and traffic.

Thanks for reading!

I vote nay. I have never seen a rating system on a forum work well, it always just becomes some sort of silly, petty, pissing/poularity contest and does nothing to foster a better community.

Just my opinion though.
