Seems old Dan landed in Dallas in route to an interview with Bill "Kinkos" Burkett. Should make for an interesting 60 Minutes II interview with another known and inconsistent liar.

CBS News Concludes It Was Misled on National Guard Memos, Network Officials Say

fter days of expressing confidence about the documents used in a "60 Minutes'' report that raised new questions about President Bush's National Guard service, CBS News officials have grave doubts about the authenticity of the material, network officials said last night.

Those officials, who asked not to be identified, said CBS News would most likely make an announcement as early as today that it had been deceived about the documents' origins, and that it was mounting an intensive news investigation of where they came from.

But these people cautioned that CBS News could still pull back from an announcement. Officials were meeting last night with Dan Rather, the anchor who presented the report, to go over the information it has collected about the documents one last time before making a final decision.

People at the network said it was now possible that officials would open a formal internal inquiry into how it moved forward with the report, which officials now say they are beginning to believe was too flawed to have gone on the air.

Well hell, anyone with half a brain, coupled with basic research skills, could deduce the report was indeed badly flawed. Talk about one of the great journalistic blunders in the last twenty years - or perhaps longer.

The question now is if good old Democrat Dan and "See BS" will strike again in the same style.

LOL, well, according to the NYT, he's already visited here and left. Supposedly, the news heads at "See BS" will make a decision about whether to back down or continue on with RAthERGATE.
 
Despite this now admitted by CBS blunder..... I hope they don't kick out Dan Rather. He has been around for sooo long. It would be unfortunate to loose him due to being duped along with others. Its not just his fault.....he relies on other people to get and check out the facts for him you know.

Calling Dan himself out as a liar would be just like the Dems calling Bush a liar on Iraq. Both relied on other people for research gathering.

That never stopped the Dems from sprinkling the LIAR tag around liberally. It's doubtful it's going to save Rather from be labeled in the same way.

You can't even prove GWB did his Alabama Guard drills. You can't give a good reason why GWB refused to take his required flight physical. You can't explain why GWB had an extra 6 months tacked onto the end of his 6 year military commitment.

Jealous??😉 We don't have to prove ANYTHING because your accusations are all based on BS documents. And YES, they have been proven as BS. You can't make an accusation based on lies; it just doesn't wash. Example: I could make up a forged document saying that Kerry wears his wife's clothes in their private time. Now, YOU PROVE that that is wrong! Go ahead and either prove it or STFU!

Last week, amid increasing questions about the authenticity of documents used in support of a 60 MINUTES WEDNESDAY story about President Bush's time in the Texas Air National Guard, CBS News vowed to re-examine the documents in question?and their source?vigorously. And we promised that we would let the American public know what this examination turned up, whatever the outcome.

Now, after extensive additional interviews, I no longer have the confidence in these documents that would allow us to continue vouching for them journalistically. I find we have been misled on the key question of how our source for the documents came into possession of these papers. That, combined with some of the questions that have been raised in public and in the press, leads me to a point where?if I knew then what I know now?I would not have gone ahead with the story as it was aired, and I certainly would not have used the documents in question.

But we did use the documents. We made a mistake in judgment, and for that I am sorry. It was an error that was made, however, in good faith and in the spirit of trying to carry on a CBS News tradition of investigative reporting without fear or favoritism. [WTF! The whole deal was favoritism to Kerry!]

Please know that nothing is more important to us than people's trust in our ability and our commitment to report fairly and truthfully.

Yeah, but he's the prima dona who's directly in charge. If all he does is read what others hand him, why does he have any credibility in the first place. That would make him merely a "talking head", not a journalist.
 
How Rather/CBS can say they were deceived is beyond me. They ignored their own experts and went with a story that was debunked in under 2 hours by pajama-wearing bloggers. After the memos were questioned, Rather stood by them 100% and started tossing out references to a right-wing conspiracy. A day later it was "unless someone can prove they are forgeries we stand by them". That's investigative journalism? After the Washington Post deconstructed their house of cards, they admit that the memos might be faked but they are still accurate. Ain't that a howler? Now they finally admit what the rest of the entire world already knew but claim they were duped and it looks like they are going to pin it on Burkett...assumably their "unimpeachable" source who is certainly anything but that.

CBS is a fraud and should register as a 527.

i have to disagree, he didn't want the documents to be fake and wanted the story to be true. he lost the last shred of objectivity he may have possessed

he wanted to help oust Bush so he ignored the rules in order to try and be a hero helping Kerry get elected

Well the Niger docs passed the hands of several of the top Intel agencies, including the Italian, and British. Even the CIA verified them at first. Of course Bush was an idiot for using them after their validity was finally called into question. So I guess it is similar, but the Niger docs are a first class fvck up of the worlds intelligence agencies. They should have never even seen Bush's desk. The MI6 and Italian agencies should have seen they were forgeries.

Gotta hand it to you.....that last line is one of the best I've seen. LOL!! :laugh: And you're right; they should register under the 527 rules. In fact, in their statement/so called apology, they blalme it on their source that supposedly tricked them. So, if CBS and Dan Rather were tricked/deceived by this "source", where was their anger and threats as to that source. If someone had actually deceived them, wouldn't they be truely pissed off and launch a "real" investigation into who did this to them??? Do you hear any of that?? NO, you do not!! WTF is up with that?? Well, what's up with that is that they just don't care. They took their shot and got caught in the mess that they themselves created.
And, if you read their (CBS and Rather's) statement, they said that they no longer trust how their "source" got the documents in question. They DO NOT say that they no longer trust the source; only how that source got the documents in question. This is the same source that has now released a statement ADMITTING that he duped a CBS producer. This has got to be the laugher of the century!! The sad part is that there are those that will actually believe CBS in this so called admission of guilt or apology and take it as something that was truely well meant. It is nothing more than a statement of last resort, given when they had no other recourse because they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar of deciet.
Now watch the spin, spin, spin and how they will try to deflect all this bad news into something that Bush caused, created, mislead or conspired to deceive. It never ends...... but it will most certainly get even more intensive when Bush wins the election: And he will win, so get over it.
