another plus for smoking

pretty sure it's still a negative that smoking kills you faster than not smoking, just because being a hamplanet is worse doesn't somehow make this a "win" for smoking.

The last years of life for a lot of smokers isn't really that much of a life. I watched both my grandparents suffer through severe COPD. 85% of all COPD cases are current or former smokers. Toss in a stroke or two and it's good times!

You could say a lot of the same about Diabeetus. Not a very nice way to live.

Strokes, heart disease, etc are not nice either.

Being fat is a disease (and a disability)...it has nothing to do with control. Smoking is a choice.

Being fat is a choice too. The hohos don't walk into your mouth.

Sorry, but no. It's a disease, which is defined as "a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness; sickness; ailment."

It's not a choice. The AMA says so.*

Being fat for 85+% of fat people IS a choice, there are a few who have mental health issues or have some other contributing condition. But no one is born fat, it is a choice to eat what is a healthy normal amount, when you exceed that amount on a regular basis for many many years, you end up fat. It was all a series of choices that eventually culminated with being a fat ass.

Diet and exercise are hard, but when you completely lack the self control to do either it shouldn't be a shock when you get fat. And just because you lack the self control doesn't suddenly classify it as a disease. If you were working out 6-8 hours a week and eating at most 1,500 calories a day almost anyone could lose weight. It's your choice not to do those things.

So which organ, part, structure, or system of the body is functioning improperly?

Your opinion < AMA. Fat = disease. My disease precludes me from working out or eating so little. I don't have a choice. The disease stops me.

And they're still wrong. Being fat is a choice, and I'd say it's closer to 99% of fat people are taking no accountability for their actions that cause them to be fat.

And your opinion < 60% of the AMAs opinion. Get over it.

My fat cells...duh.

Nope. If you eat more calories than your burn your fat cells store the excess as fat. That is working properly.

Lets use an analogy.

Lets say you are filling a bucket with water from a hose. When the water reaches the top you keep trying to fill it and the water floods everywhere. Who is at fault you or the bucket?
