Cost - You said cost, not value, so I give it a 1. It costs entirely too much. I won't buy it until it costs much less. In terms of value, it is good; it has to be considering that Sony is losing money on them. But even if a Ferrari was a better value than a Civic, it's still more than I'm willing to spend on a car. Yeah, I can easily afford it. But I don't want to pay $600 for it.

PS3's cost is definitely a major hinderance. Just wait until December and get yourself a wishcertificate from Amex. That's how I got one with 25% off; I can justify the price much better.

What is this wish certificate?

Annually, American Express has this event during the holidays. I think it lasts about two weeks, and each day, they have "most wanted items" that are discounted to some degree in limited quantities. They also give out wishcertificates to different vendors, mostly online. These certificates give you huge savings. I was able to nab an Amazon.com 25% and Toys'R'Us 25% off for example.

Is that 25% off an entire purchase or a single item? Do you recall if there was a dollar limit?

I gave it an overall 5. Its not much more than a 360 and that extra $200 gets you a high def player.
Mlb the show 07 is awesome. I like the controllers and how light they are to. And GoW2 upconverted looks really nice.

Before the Holiday season, PS3 will pick up great speed. It's sold 3+ million, so far (U.S.). Lots of great games, and then comes the Holiday season. Boom. PS3 will be in full swing.

My personal experience:
----------------------------
- System build is definitely a FIVE. Why? It has no flaws. No heating problems, no disc deaths, no problems, at all. It's a beauty, too.
- Blu-Ray is a definite PLUS
- Linux, well...I WAS going to install. Then I learned you aren't allowed to use the RSX. So Linux is like running a computer without a video card. Not meant for me, really.
- This is still the beginning, and there have been good games (not great, but good). The first good/great was/is Oblivion. Then Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and so on.
- Cost: It is a superior machine. The price fits the PS3, but it's a bigger size. A $500 price tag would be better (I got the 20GB).
- Theres room to UPGRADE to a bigger HDD (takes a lappy HD...any of em work).
-Overall: FIVE.

I bought my PS3 back in decmember. I like it, I have a few games for it, nhl2k7, motostorm, tekken 5: DR, and few other games off the psn store. It does lack some good quality games at the moment, but more are coming out. I do like some of the recent firmware updates, love the upscale for ps1 and ps2 games and dvd movies. I'm thinking about picking up Enchanted Arms. Has anyone played it? If so, good game? how are the controls for it?

yeah i wanted to check out Enchanted Arms before i got it. so i rented it from blockbuster the other day.

only been playing about 3 hours. so far the controls are fine. the look is styled after the FF series. the fighting is interesting. it actually takes a little strategy.

only ting that annoys me is that one of the main characters is more flamboyantly gay then Richard Simmons. its rather annoying. he giggles and always professing his love for one of the other main characters.

LOL! Is his love interest a guy or a girl?

It's entire purchase. So you can get some games and extra controllers if desired. If I recall correctly, there was a limit, I think maximum of like $500 off (savings cap at $2,000). The limit may change though.

I have Enchanted Arms for the 360 and it's actually a pretty decent game if you can ignore the effeminate character. The game actually takes a lot (and I mean a lot) of stereotypes from anime and throws them in, which will probably make most gamers cock an eyebrow at the oddity before them. Just remember, as much as you may not be a Japaholic, put the game in Japanese voices to avoid the pain that is the English voice acting.

For $600 it better be good in every category, maybe except price.
[edit]I'm not an owner so i didn't vote, my b-i-l has one, besides the price, my other complaint is that it's incredibly bulky and ugly (same for X360), and i don't like the games now. Every we get together we play wii games and his ps3 is currently collecting dust.[/edit]

The voice acting is a little overdone, but I'd rather have someone trying to be too lively than the whispers and dull voices that were FF10.

I am a good boy and havent voted either (as I am not an owner).

But when I bought my 360 I though THAT was expensive for a console. When they announced the pricing for the PS3 I literally laughed out loud at work! Its an insane price to pay for a console, especially for me for two reasons

1. I dont give 2 hoots about blueray (or HD-DVD for that matter). I watch DVD's upscaled to 1080 using the xbox360 side by side to a friends blueray player (admittedly not a ps3 one) and we could not tell which is which... nor do I even care when I am perfectly happy watching 90% of my content at DivX standard!

2. The price in the UK is over $900 at current rates. How many americans would pay $900???

On top of the lack of games, the late release, my overall dissapointment with the PSP, the lack of an integrated live-like friends and matchmaking system.... there is just nothing compelling about the PS3 at all.

Now if the price would halve, and a butt load of quality games (i.e. not sport franchises, not Yet Another Generic Japanese game) come out, I would start to think about buying one.

Overall it's a good console, I voted 4/5.

Build quality, the PS3 is unmatched - it is quiet, doesn't get too hot, and looks great. The Xbox 360 simply fails in this category compared to the PS3 - it's always getting hot and is extremely loud. 5/5 here.

Extras - This is another category where the PS3 shines. I don't use Linux, so I don't know how good of a feature that is. Folding is nice and alot faster than on the PC. Blu-Ray is one of the things that really justified the cost of the PS3 to me, and it's a great feature to have. Another 5/5

Games - This is where the PS3 is weak at this point. Right now, there just aren't many good PS3 games. The only PS3 game I own right now is Resistance, and I can't see that changing until later this year. The good thing is, later this year, several good games are coming, among them Killzone 2 (hopefully this year), Heavenly Sword, and a few others. At this point, the PS3 gets a 3/5.

Price - This is the second big weak point of the PS3, it is a very expensive console at $600. The thing that makes this justifiable in my mind is that it is an excellent Blu-Ray player as well, and with a Blu-Ray player costing something like $500, suddenly paying $600 for a game console that is one of the best Blu-Ray players out there doesn't seem so bad. The good thing is, Sony should be able to really cut costs as the Blu-Ray drive drops in price and they are able to move to 65nm on the CPU (which they are already doing, I've heard).

I believe using an ATi GPU, Folding@Home is faster on a PS3. Not to mention, if they get off their duffs and make one for the G80, I'm quite sure you'd see a good performer there too ;).

EDIT: Meant PS3 not PC.

Well, it's certainly faster than the regular client... I just can't get into regular CPU folding because it takes too long.

I actually meant PS3 in that statement as in ATi-equipped PC > PS3 in Folding@Home.

Once I switched the sound from the HDMI over to the optical cable, performance has been rock solid. My gaming experience sucks because I'm a noob at using a controller rather than a keyboard/mouse, so I can't hit anything and keep dying all the time... :( Movies look great (haven't actually tried a Blu-Ray movie yet) and work better now that I'm using the bluetooth remote rather than the game controller to control things, and I'm just now starting to explore the media center capabilities (hit and miss so far).

Ok, I just joined the team last week.. I now own all 3 systems, yay me. I grabbed a 60Gb system, brand new / sealed box off Craigs for $425.. seemed like a pretty good deal so I jumped.

I am really impressed with the system. I love how neat and quiet it is. XB360 looks clunky by comparison with the addon HD player and clip-on wireless. Another plus is on the PS3 I can actually get through an Oblivion session without getting a stupid "disc read error" right in the middle of the dungeon.

Like someone else said, the PS3 just feels more next-gen.

The menus and games seem more crisp and vibrant than the XB too, although Oblivion on the PS3 looks like complete ass compared to Oblivion on the XBox.. My friend tells me he sees the opposite on his systems, so I am thinking I might have a setting somewhere amiss. Its wierd though, because everything else looks ok, but when I spin up Oblivion, I get the bars on the left and right of the screen, and the display looks like a really crummy upscale of a lower res.

How is resistance ? Does its demo give it a fair rap ? I keep hearing how the game is top notch, but I really wasn't too impressed with the Demo.

So now I have this thing, I have a feeling its going to be used as a Blu-Ray player for awhile.. I want a new game for it, but there dosent seem to be any worth buying. Sony definately has some catching up to do in that department.

I actually just went and spend $10 at the game store to grab HotShots Fore and NFL 2K5 (PS2).. I think I might pick up the old Rayman and FF7 (PS1) too if I can find them.
