Heh.. I just bought one yesterday, and so far so good. Graphics seem fine, and the thing is dead quiet. I haven't tried the blu-ray or most of the features yet, however.

The lack of games is the biggest turn off for me, but I went in knowing this so I'm not crying over it.

The games so far (own Oblivion and Resistance) are great with amazing graphics. The patch made PS2 games look 10x better so that's also a plus on the overall. Blue-ray is also a nice plus and everything looks awesome in my samsumg 56' 1080p screen.

I'ma vote 4. If there were numerous games out there it would easily be 5. Price didn't matter to me. That chase cc deal made it much more attractive :)

Same about the lack of games here, but the dealbreakers on the 360 for me were noise and hardware reliability, so it's all good.

I'm going to have to try the patch! I've got a 42" 1080i plasma (yeah, I'm jealous, but I got the tv for free, so I can't complain), and the only game I've looked at so far is Oblivion, and that looks great. I've heard that the patch also enables excellent dvd upconversion.

LOL, if PS3's build quality is considered a "1," then what is Xbox 360's build quality?

I vote 4 for overall. Lack of quality games is a concern, but this will be over in next few months.

The same. I figured games will improve in time for PS3, but the quality of hardware will not once I buy an Xbox360.

The only thing that got a somewhat low score from me was price, but I do feel the price is justified, so I gave that a 3.

No point in answering the poll since the 360 fanatics and wiitards will ruin it.

I've had a PS3 since December and am happy with it, though I mostly use it as a blu-ray player while I catch up on unplayed PC games.

The game selection is decent if you don't already own a 360, since there are enough cross-platform games to add to the exclusives.

Build quality is excellent and cost is reasonable if you want blu-ray.

1080p TV + Blu ray + Netflix = great movie watching.

Wouldn't "current owners only" kind of skew the pole? Now if you stipulated "only people who have PLAYED it"... then maybe you could get a good sample. Assuming no one messed with your results.

And um... was it really necessary to separate PC and Console gaming into different sub forums? WTF? Might as well make PC, Mac, Linux, Wii, 360 and PS3 forums while you're at it...

I kid, I kid... please don't send me away. :(

Games: 2

I don't own a single PS3 game. Hopefully this will change by the Holidays. This time last year the 360 didn't have that much either. The only reason I gave it a 2 is that I have had some fun with a few PS2 games. :)

Extras: 5

The best Blu Ray player on the market. How can I argue with that? The new media streaming capabilities also have me excited.

Cost: 4

Cost is high, but value is also very high. You get a lot for your money.

Build Quality: 5

I can't help but compare this to my jet engine sounding, overheating, randomly crashing piece of crap 360. :)

Overall: 4

If I had to make the choice again, I might have waited for the first price drop but I would have still bought a PS3.

anyone can walk into an electronics store and just play one. its also obvious to tell how many bogus voters have come through, i put a poll in there specifically for that purpose :). I think its safe to say so far that the people who own one, are happy with it and if other people could just get over the high pricetag (a well deserved price tag btw, you get a lot for what you pay) then they'd also find out that its a great console.

now if we could just get some killer apps then we can start the next gen console race.

Some of you must have the greatest ears on the planet. The 360 sounds like a 'jet engine'? I didn't know people had a habit of sitting around in a quiet room listening for noises produced by a console. I never hear a peep out of my 360 when I'm playing a game or watching a movie with the volume pumped and the surround sound flowing. Maybe I'm missing a frequency???

It really does. I have never personally played a 360, but when I did...Holy crap, it was louder than most computers I've been around (I have been around some loud ones).

Simple fix: Turn up the TV ;)

The first time I heard it, it scared me cause I had no idea what was making the noise. We sit maybe 6-7 feet from it.

Apparently there are some models that are quieter though.

Best games for PS2 didn't come out until 5yrs+ system came out. I give devs another yr or two before the really good stuff starts coming out.
Waiting anxiously for Friday. That's when the FragFX from SplitFish is due to hit Amazon. Mouse+Nunchucka like controller for shooters. Then I will pick up Resistance:FOM and FEAR if the FragFX performs like I think it will.
Right now working through FFXII.

I dont recall how I voted but I gave it pretty high marks.

The PS3 exceeded my expectations shortly after buying it. The cincher for me was learning that it would play my SACD's, and to a damn good job of it. That was important because the HD DVD player I bought replaced my Denon DVD player; only later did I find out that unlike the Denon, Toshiba's prodigy won't play SACD's, so I had to keep both units attached to my setup. Now that the PS3 is here with it's SACD ability, the Denon is going up for sale.

I also enjoy watching the blu ray movies on it; however an issue not related to the PS3 is keeping me from using the 1080p out; I'm stuck at 1080i. The issue is my Westy 42", which IS a 1080p but mine apparently is defective and won't show 1080p without major artifacting. Grr. But that's OK, I'll get the TV replaced and in the meantime I can still watch any HD movie at 1080i no matter what studio releases it. Life... is good.

Oh yeah, the PS3 also plays games! But that's about 1% of my usage on it. Currently I am Folding@home 40% of the time (such as when I'm at work), listening to SACD's 20%, and watching movies the rest.

People must actually play their 360 without surround sound... craziness I tell you. I never hear mine either by the way.

I won't buy one, because I'd like to actually have some decent games for it. I own almost 20 normal games for my XBOX 360 and even more if you count the arcade games. I'd be hard-pressed to find 3 PS3 games that I'd want :p.

Although the fact that I want to watch some of the movies that are only on Blu-Ray in HD rather than on DVD is a bit unsettling. Oh well, I guess I'll show my appreciation for their actions in the usual fashion.

purchased mine in December (sold my launch day reserve one, only made about $250 on it me thinks), and here's how I voted:
gaming: 3
extras: 5
cost: 3
build quality: 4
overall: 4

ratings defined:

gaming: not many games are available at the moment, especially not many high-caliber/quality games. I won Resistance, Motorstorm, Armored Core 4, Genji, and Full Auto 2. All enjoyable experiences for the most part.

extras: blu-ray is a huge thing for me, and the other things are bonuses but are definitely nice to have been included

cost: well obviously, its expensive, but the addition of blu-ray makes it more affordable in my eyes. I would never buy a standalone BD player at the costs they are now, but the PS3 is amazing in terms of BD playback. Great feature-set all around, makes the price not as bad if you make use of everything the PS3 offers.

build quality: System never fails, but the controllers and the general construction of the system is kind of shaky. Light plastics and not exactly the sturdiest feeling thing, but the console itself is build well, and while its bad materials, the console does feel strong. Its also stable as hell, not one problem here. Runs warm, but expected with whats inside of it.

overall: Great system, just needs a stronger software showing. Thankfully, it appears that starting this fall, the software side of things will be much better and through the 2nd quarter of 2008, I am quite excited. :)

Generally satisfied, as I use it more for a Blu ray player than a gaming console. I have Resistance, Motorstorm, NBA 2k7, NBA Homecourt, Virtua Tennis, F1, Virtua Fighter, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I play Virtua Tennis, NBA Homecourt, F1 and Hot Shot Golf 5 demo the most. Starting to listen to music more on it as well, since its hooked up to my good sound system. Overall I'd give it a 4, but that is with the anticipation of some of the games that are coming out this year/early next. For whatever reason, I prefer my PS3 to my 360, which I would give a 3/3.5. In fact I loaned the 360 out for a month now and havent missed it. Maybe the PS3 just feels more next gen. I dunno.

I don't own one so I won't vote, but this is my take:

Gaming - Not great now. Even PS3 owners say Resistance is the only good game out yet, and I don't care much for console FPS. No vote in this category, because it's really too early.
Extras - Linux, Blu-Ray, Folding, Media, etc... - Linux intrigues me, especially with the possibility of emulators (they already exist, right? And I assume you can use the PS3 controller with them?). Blu-Ray is ahead of HD-DVD at the moment and has good potential if they can match HD-DVD in terms of cost. I understand the PS3 is the best upscaling DVD player out there as well. Media capabilities are worthless to me, as I already have an HTPC in the same room as my video games. I give it a 5.

Cost - You said cost, not value, so I give it a 1. It costs entirely too much. I won't buy it until it costs much less. In terms of value, it is good; it has to be considering that Sony is losing money on them. But even if a Ferrari was a better value than a Civic, it's still more than I'm willing to spend on a car. Yeah, I can easily afford it. But I don't want to pay $600 for it.

Build Quality - No issues so far, so a tentative 5. But as with the game selection, it's really too early to tell.

Overall - It's a very good system. It remains to be seen what it can offer that the Xbox 360 cannot. They stuck with the same suck-ass controller design that they've been using for 10 years, so I give it a 4 overall; given the choice of the same game on either the 360 or PS3, I'd choose the 360 just because of the controller. People always criticize the N64 controller, and I admit it was not great. But it, like the DualShock, came out at a time when we were still transitioning from the D-pad to the analog stick. That was 10 years ago. Move the left analog stick to the primary position, please.

So overall, I give it a 4.

PS3's cost is definitely a major hinderance. Just wait until December and get yourself a wishcertificate from Amex. That's how I got one with 25% off; I can justify the price much better.

If they drop the price to $500 and I got 25% off, I don't see anything stopping me from buying one - that's $375. Even $450 I could probably justify. I'm not familiar with this wishcertificate thing, but I'll look into it.
