I really like smoked almonds as long as they don't overdo it with the salt. Otherwise, raw almonds are better than roasted. They have a better chew to them and a sweetness that otherwise gets roasted out.

With cashews, they are best dry roasted and lightly sea salted.

I think the worst thing you can do to nuts or other kernels is roast them in peanut oil. Peanut oil destroys the nut's original flavor and gives them a less appealing crunch. 🙁 If oil is to be used, then I think sunflower oil is best.

A perfect almond is better than a good cashew. But a Good cashew is better than a non-perfect almond. The problem with almonds is that they very wildly in flavor not even factoring in processing. If I get an almond that has that, rich sweet almondy sweetness in the middle...that's the best.

Otherwise for a consistently good salty snacker, the cashew is king. Pistacios are okay, and pecans are good in candies, but nothing trumps the perfect almond or a good cashew.

EDIT: Dry roasted for cashew, raw for almonds.

Almonds and dark chocolate were made for each other.

But nothing really beats the complex taste treat of a roasted chestnut.

pistachios are probably my favorite nut.

But i would say that next to chips/salsa, my absolute favorite snack food is dry roasted peanuts. Man, I can eat about 3# in one sitting. D:

My mom has two freezers full of pecans. We used to have 3 pecan trees (now just one) and we inherited all the pecans my grandmother cracked before she died.

For store bought I like Cashews.

But fresh shelled pecan halves sprinkled with sugar and roasted in the oven on a cookie sheet and served warm are hard to beat.

I'm not a big nut fan, but good cashews (salted or honey roasted) are some of my favorites. Otherwise, pistachios or honey roasted peanuts (as long as it's actually honey roasted, and not just coated in sugar).

I've had a few almonds and walnuts that I liked, but most of them just seem dry and bitter / tasteless. Guess I need to find a decent brand and see what I've been missing.

I like wolfies nuts . . . the beer nuggets are the best. And the coated almonds are nice too.

The company packages em all nice in a bag. It'll be a bit too big for your hand, but you'll manage. Once you gnom gnom a bit, it will seem to fit just fine.

Seriously though, wwolfies nuts are pretty damn good. Patented process too!
