Oh okay....yes because just leaving them on the ground is clearly the ethical thing to do.

You know what OP, imo, you're right in this case. Finders Keepers. Had they fallen off or out of a contractor's truck, it'll just get written off anyway. Lowes isn't out any money because it's returned, unopened, resellable merchandise. If the goods were for a person doing private work on their own home....well we'll never know now, and doubtful you ever would know. How many people look in the classifieds for "FND LGHT SWCHS AND CRCT BRKRS FRM LWS! CALL XXX-XXX-XXXX"? Probably zero. Besides, then you're out money for running an ad in the classifieds.

So why beat yourself up about it? There's always going to be some people, sitting in their ivory towers, looking down on the people who take advantage of chance.
oh how nice.

he asks for advice, and those that tell him to do the right thing are sitting in "ivory towers."

how about we just call it honesty.

Wrong.

GFCI Circuit Breakers will typically range anywhere from $35-$60 at Lowes/HD, depending on the brand and amperage.

Lutron Dimmers can be very expensive, ranging from the cheapest normally in the $20 range, to over $50 a pop depending on the models.
Oops, you said breaker, not outlet, which are twice the price of Home Depot. I didn't see mention of a dimmer. You can buy a ten pack of switches for about $8.00.

If you knew anything about Lutron, you would know that they simply do not make residential conventional light switches. In Home Depot and Lowes, you will ONLY find dimmers under the Lutron brand. Even the products that Lutron classifies under their switches category have dimmer functionality.

Levitton is a whole different story (which the majority of switches/receptacles/etc and some dimmers are).

I don't see anything unethical about keeping those items I found in a road ditch. Now if I knew who they belonged to or lied about something then I'd agree. But as far as I can tell the original owner is untraceble.

If I just took them back to Lowes and told them that I found them then big powerful Lowes would make $250 off of them and just stick them back on teh shelf.

No they were not. The Lutron dimmer switches indeed cost $50 each. Those GFI circuit breakers cost $50 each as well.

I say that when these situations arise, if you are asking yourself what to do, or if so and so is okay/right etc. Then you already know what to do.

Hope that made sense:confused:

Well like some others hare have said, I don't see how this is cheating Lowes at all. Lowes comes out nuetral in this whole deal. The person who lost the merchandise is the loser in all of this. I guess I'd be the winner.

That is certainly worth a shot. I guess I could place the ad and run it for a week and if I don't get any response I'd feel better about taking them back.

One thing that was brought up today by a friend of mine is what if the merchandise could have been stolen and then thrown out of a car window by someone who thought they were being followed. If I try and take the merchandise back they could have it flagged and I could get into some trouble I suppose.

I'm thinking that running the ad or just donating it to someone might be the thing to do. I guess I can also just hold on to it if I decide to build a home someday.

I rate your spelling: fvck-all/10

LOL, Not sure if that is good or bad. :)

in the UK, fvck-all = 0

So you're saying my spelling rates at 0 out of 10? I'm not a great speller but I didn't think I was that bad :) I just type too fast............

Tin foil hat much?

Seriously, if the person that lost the items was being followed and tossed the items, the followers (whomever they might be*cue music*) would have stopped to secure the evidence.

Then again, what if the followers didnt see the evidence toss?...

Your idea sucked. Nobody is going to be looking through newspaper classifieds for the light switches they lost. The OP found them, has no effective way to find the original owner, so there's nothing wrong with doing whatever he wants to do with them. If the bag had a receipt in it, that'd be a different story.

Either take them back for the credit or call your local Habitat for Humanity and ask them if they have any use for them or put them on Freecycle. You get rid of stuff you don't need which is like an enema for the soul.

If I found them, they would become mine unless there was some ID or somethign in the bag. I lost my faith in humanity a while ago.
